Chapter 39 Hidden Greed Behind a False Plea
Did Jolie really think their mother would like it, or did she just want it for herself?
If it was what she wanted, Anton would have bought it for her without a second thought.
But hiding behind their mother as an excuse left a bad taste in his mouth-he hated being lied to.
Still unaware her true intentions had been laid bare, Jolie was utterly obsessed with the jewelry set. Knowing it was meant for Zora only made her crave it more fiercely.

Yet she could not take it for herself, forced to stand by and watch the clerk wrap it up. She ground her
eeth in quiet rage.
It should have been hers by right.
Zora was never worthy of such fine pieces.
‘Take out the bracelet and necklace for me, and pack the earrings and tiara separately,” Jensen said.
The clerk, wearing velvet gloves, carefully took out the pieces and handed them over.
ensen took them, then gently held Zora’s wrist and slipped the bracelet onto her.
‘No need to lower your head. A little princess never has to bow.”
He reached for the necklace next. Zora instinctively tried to bend down, and a soft, amused warmth laced ensen’s deep voice, his eyes full of fond indulgence.
Zora froze where she stood, tilting her head up to look at him. Her heart felt light and tender, as if someone had carefully cupped it in their palms and treasured it dearly.
She blinked in a daze, a faint sting pricking the corners of her eyes.
ensen looped the necklace around Zora’s neck and fastened gently.
Jensen…” Zora murmured, lost for words.
୮
‘Wear this set for now, alright? I’ll order you a brand-new custom one soon, exactly the style you like best.”
Jensen smiled softly, feeling a quiet sense of contentment seeing her neck and wrists no longer empty.
Dressing up his little cousin brought him pure joy.
He made up his mind to spoil her with more beautiful things in the future, to dress her up perfectly.
Anton stood off to the side, his face burning with awkwardness.
None of the Knox brothers had ever given Zora so much as a thoughtful gift, yet Jensen, her cousin, cared for her far more than her own blood brothers ever had.
Every word he spoke brimmed with undisguised fondness and adoration for Zora.

The girl his own family overlooked, even grew annoyed by, was cherished like a precious treasure by Jensen.
The sight stung sharply.
He wanted to look away, yet his gaze stayed fixed on them all the same.
“Mr. Marlow, your earrings and tiara are all packed. Would you like us to send them to your residence, or will you take them with you?” the clerk asked, finishing the packing quickly and neatly.
‘Send them to the Marlow Manor,” Jensen replied.
He signed the receipt once he was sure Zora loved the pieces.
This jewelry set was worth over ten million dollars, yet Jensen did not hesitate for a moment.
They planned to grab dinner soon, and carrying the box around would be inconvenient.
Zora had no pierced ears, so she could not wear the earrings right away.
The tiara was also far too fancy for the moment; it could be kept for special occasions later, or just for Zora o admire and play with.
But the necklace and bracelet were perfect to wear right then.
ensen’s custom set came with four pieces: a bracelet, a necklace, a pair of earrings, and a delicate tiara.
Tinted pink gemstones lined the tiara, glimmering beautifully under the shop lights.
olie stood watching, biting her lip hard to hold back the jealousy churning inside her.
Why did Zora get Jensen’s kindness and protection?
All of it should have belonged to her-every last piece!
Zora had stolen everything that was rightfully hers.
Zora walked beside Jensen as they left the shop, passing right by Anton and Jolie.
Anton’s eyes lingered on Zora, but she never glanced his way once.
She kept walking straight beside Jensen, passing them by without a single look.
Anton pressed his lips into a tight line.
She never spared him a word.
“Anton, let’s head home. Mom’s waiting for us,” Jolie said, noticing him staring after Jensen and Zora’s retreating figures.

“Alright. Anton nodded.
“Anton… my stomach suddenly hurts pretty bad. Could you wait for me a minute?”
Jolie suddenly felt a violent churning in her gut, and her expression shifted
She clutched her stomach tightly, nails digging into her small handbag, fighting back the constant discomfort and biting her lower lip.
“Excuse me, where is your restroom?” she asked the clerk.
“This way, miss,” the clerk pointed the way.
Jolie hurried toward the restroom at once.

Left alone, Anton stood rooted to the spot, his gaze fixed on the two figures walking away side by side.
“Zora, come on, I’ll take you out for dinner.”
Jensen’s warm, indulgent voice drifted over from afar. He led Zora toward the upper floor of the mall.
Zora stayed close by his side, looking like a gentle little girl being led safely by someone she trusted.
Anton watched them from a distance, silent and lost in his own thoughts.
“Jensen, aren’t we going back to have dinner with Grandma and Grandpa?” Zora asked softly.
‘Not tonight. Let’s eat out instead, try something different. I already booked a table upstairs,” Jensen said, guiding her toward the elevator.
Zora said nothing more, simply walking quietly beside him.
