Chapter 56 Warm Welcome
D
“I heard the new girl in our class is the Knox family’s adopted daughter. She lived out in the countryside all these years before they brought her back to town.”

The Knox family had not yet revealed Zora’s true identity to the public, only putting it that she was their adopted daughter.
“An adopted daughter, huh? No wealthy family would go out of their way to bring some random girl home for no reason. There’s definitely something sketchy going on here,” one sharp-eyed student muttered.
“Cut that out. Who even wrote that trash post online calling her plain and uncouth? If she’s ‘rough around the edges,’ what does that make me-some kind of hairless monkey?”
“Ahhh, she’s so precious! I just wanna adopt her!”
“She’s exactly the kind of sweet girl I’ve always imagined. Move aside, let me be the first to say
hi to her.”
Students crowded tightly by the doorway and windows, eyes lighting up as Zora drew closer step by step.
“Zora, don’t worry. Everyone in our class is easygoing. If you run into any trouble, you can always come find me,” Easton spoke gently to her.
But the next second, he fell silent.
Following Zora’s gaze, he saw the crowd crammed at the door, along with classmates pressed flat against the windows, their faces squished out of shape as they stared outside.
A heavy, awkward silence hung in the air.
Zora glanced at the packed doorway on one side and the crowd plastered to the windows on the other. She pressed her lips together and stayed quiet.
Did they hate her? Were they trying to scare her away like this?
“Ahhh! She’s here! Make way, make way! I’m calling dibs on being the first to hang out with her!”
Suddenly, someone kicked the classroom door from the inside. The students blocking the entrance stumbled forward in a mess.
In an instant, all the faces vanished from the windows, and a flood of classmates poured out of the room.
They stopped politely two steps in front of Zora, staring at her without blinking, taking in every

detail of her delicate, pretty features.
Zora let them look her over. There was no malice in their eyes, so she felt no fear-only quiet confusion.
She tilted her head slightly, wondering what exactly they were staring at
Everyone’s hearts felt like they’d been struck right in the chest.
“Our new classmate is truly gorgeous, someone murmured from the crowd.
“Your name’s Zora, right? It’s such a lovely name.”
Dazed and overwhelmed, Zora was gently ushered into the classroom as everyone chattered around her.
“Nice to have such a pretty new girl join us. The other classes are definitely gonna be jealous.”
All eyes stayed fixed brightly on Zora.
She looked just like a timid little rabbit wandering straight into a pack of wolves.
“Ahem… ahem. Hi there, Zora. We don’t mean any harm at all. You’re just so pretty, and we really like having you here.”
Seeing Zora frozen into silence, clearly caught off guard, Hallie Sloan at the front cleared her throat and smoothed out her face, which had gone stiff from grinning too hard.
“Thank you.” Zora nodded softly.
She could tell perfectly well that none of them had bad intentions.
“Her voice is so sweet. I just wanna give her the biggest hug.”
Zora’s eyes widened in surprise. “You can’t do that. You shouldn’t go around hugging people out of nowhere.”
She said it with such a serious, clueless little expression.
She was starting to think this class was a little dangerous.
The soft earnestness in her tone sent the whole class bursting into laughter.
They all thought their new little classmate was adorably oblivious.
“You’re so cute, Zora.” Hallie had barely managed to calm her laughter before Zora’s innocent words made her crack up all over again.

Zora blinked, confused. What had she said that was so funny?

“Oh honey, don’t look at me like that. I just wanna pinch your cheeks-they look so soft and squishy.” Hallie stood close, completely mesmerized by Zora’s gentle features.
Her cousin had never mentioned just how stunning this girl really was.
Zora quickly covered her face with both hands, big watery eyes blinking warily at Hallie.
Mentor… Reed… I wanna go home.
Somebody here wants to nibble my cheeks.
The room erupted in amused chuckles.
“Aww… Zora, you’re absolutely adorable!”
“Aww, look at our new class sweetheart. She’s just too precious!”
Everyone thought their new little angel was adorably clueless and endearing.
They all made up their minds right then-they were going to protect this sweet, innocent girl with everything they had.
“What are all of you doing crowding the doorway? Didn’t you hear the bell ring?”
Someone behind them clapped his hands, and a clear, bright voice reached their ears.
“Mr. Wyatt!”
Everyone turned around.
Standing there was Clark Wyatt, their homeroom teacher. He looked to be in his early twenties, handsome and refined, dressed in a crisp white shirt and dark casual slacks, a book tucked in one hand.
