Chapter 57 The New Angel in Class

“Mr. Wyatt, you’re here! We have a new classmate-she’s like a little angel!”

A girl waved warmly at Clark.

“Is that so? Our new classmate has arrived.”

A soft smile lingered on Clark’s face, his tone gentle and warm, carrying a strong scholarly aura.

The crowd parted, revealing Zora standing in the middle of the circle.

Zora looked right at Clark too.

“Zora, this is our homeroom teacher. He’s the nicest ever-you can call him Clark, or Mr. Wyatt.”

Hallie stayed right by Zora’s side, quickly introducing him.

“Good morning, Mr. Wyatt.”

Zora greeted him politely.

“You must be Zora. Welcome to our class. Come to me anytime if you need anything.”

Relieved by Zora’s well-behaved demeanor, Clark let out a quiet breath.

She didn’t seem like a troublemaker at all.

He’d been worried the last-minute transfer would be some wild troublemaker. The class was chaotic enough already; another mischief-maker would turn the whole room into a zoo.

Little did Clark know back then-the quietest-looking students were often the biggest headaches.

Later, when he saw her abysmal test scores, he’d want to bury his head in his hands.

She looked sweet and innocent, yet she could infuriate people without even trying.

“Hello everyone, I’m Zora Knox.”

Clark led Zora up to the podium.

Most students in the class grew up knowing one another, tight-knit in their own social circles. Transfers like Zora were rare.

“Welcome to our class, Zora! You’re one of us now!”

Easton took the lead, clapping loudly from his seat.

“Welcome aboard!” Hallie chimed in right after, clapping enthusiastically.

“You’re such a precious little angel, Zora!”

Hallie called out cheerfully, her perfectly made-up face breaking into a bright grin.

Zora had been a little nervous at first, but Hallie’s words melted all her tension away. She even felt the urge to hide her face in embarrassment.

“Zora, welcome again. Seating here is flexible, but for now, why don’t you take a spot in the third row next to Maya Cole?”

A faint, soft smile rested on Clark’s delicate features. He glanced around the classroom, his settling finally on the quiet, glasses-wearing girl in the third row.

“Aww, Clark! I wanna sit with Zora!”

Hallie wailed from her seat.

She couldn’t believe he’d assigned her a spot so fast-she’d wanted to sit right next to the little angel.

“Pull up your grades first, then we can talk about switching seats.”

Clark’s gentle smile never faded, his tone still calm and mild.

“You’re so heartless, Clark.”

Hallie covered her face, feigning hurt.

“Zora, Maya, is that alright with you two?” Clark turned to Zora, then glanced at the girl in the third row who had her head down, reading.

Called out, Maya set her book aside and looked up at Zora on the podium. She nervously traced the edge of her book and nodded slightly. “It’s fine with me, Mr. Wyatt.”

Her voice was soft and barely audible.

“I’m okay with it too.”

Zora glanced at the empty seat in the third row-it was against the left wall. The girl next to her seemed quiet and reserved, someone who wouldn’t talk much. Perfect, no need for awkward small talk.

Easton sat right in front of them; he was tall even while seated, enough to block the teacher’s line of sight easily.

Zora was thoroughly pleased. She could lean against the wall, stay out of the teacher’s notice, and even sneak a nap.

Slinging her small backpack over one shoulder, Zora walked over to the third row.

There were only 23 students in the class, now 24 with Zora.

Boys outnumbered girls heavily; including Zora, there were only five girls in total.

“Z-Zora… do you want the inside seat or the outside?”

Maya looked up at Zora and stood up nervously, her pale pink lips pressed tight, clearly flustered.

She’d been sitting on the aisle side.

“I’ll take the inside,” Zora chose decisively.

As a struggling student, the last thing she wanted was the aisle spot right out in the open.

“O-Okay… I’ll move over…”

Maya’s voice was soft and sweet, and she let out a quiet sigh of relief.

The new girl seemed easy enough to get along with.

She shifted her body, making room for Zora to pass.

Zora stepped in with her backpack and sat down.

“This period is self-study. Formal classes start next period-get yourselves settled in.”

Clark finished arranging the new student and looked at the two girls sitting together.

Zora seemed laid-back and slow-paced, while Maya was shy and avoided socializing. He hoped the pair would get along well.

“Zora, I’m right in front of you. Come find me if you need anything. You’re Reed’s cousin, so you’re my cousin too-don’t be shy at all.”

Easton twisted around in his seat, grinning at Zora behind him.

“Okay.”

Zora was already glad they didn’t have actual class this period, and a small smile tugged at her lips at his words.

Easton caught her smile, and the tips of his ears turned faintly pink.

“Zora, mind if I ask what your connection to the Knox family is?”

Felix Kane, sitting right next to Easton, turned around and stared at Zora, plain curiosity written all over his face.
