Chapter 99 The Secret Behind the Nourishing Soup
“Mr. Yale Knox, Mrs. Knox, we’ve run out of nourishing herbal soup ingredients.”
Mae stepped out with an awkward look on her face.

“Run out? How could that happen?” Wendy’s tone sharpened with rare irritation. “Doesn’t everyone know Yale is in poor health and needs this nourishing soup regularly?”
It felt as if everything was going against her lately.

“Mrs. Knox, the herbs for the nourishing soup were always provided by Zora,” Mae kept her head lowered as she spoke. “She knew Mr. Yale Knox suffered with his stomach, so she’d leave ingredients for us to make the soup whenever he came home.”
In truth, the soup had only been available ever since Zora first arrived at the Knox Villa. Now that she’d been pushed away, there was nothing left to prepare it with.
The family hadn’t cherished Zora when she was here, yet now that she was gone, they clung to the little things she’d left behind.
“Zora supplied them?”
Everyone present was stunned by the revelation.
“Zora has been preparing my nourishing soup all along?” Yale sounded utterly shocked.
He’d never guessed it was her doing.
Yale had a sensitive stomach that couldn’t handle rich food easily. Between endless business dinners and drinking late into the night, his stomach always ached and left him tossing and turning in bed.
Some time ago, the household had started serving the nourishing soup. It warmed his stomach the moment he drank it and eased all the tension in his body. He’d grown quite fond of it.
Every time he came home, Mae would hand him a bowl, and it always let him sleep soundly through the night.
He’d felt refreshed heading into work each morning, and even noticed it helped restore his energy. He’d never imagined Zora was the one behind it all.
“That’s right, sir.” Mae nodded respectfully. “Zora always looked so happy watching you finish every bowl.”
“Then why hasn’t she kept extra stock aside?” Wendy blurted out, clearly taken aback.
A moment later, an awkward look crossed her face, and she quickly backtracked. “Yale works so

hard for this family. Why wouldn’t she set aside more portions for her own brother?”
The more she spoke, the more convinced she became that she was in the right.
Yale slaved away at work to support the whole family; even Zora’s allowance came from his earnings. It was only natural she should look out for him.
Mae fell silent.
The family had cast Zora aside completely-why would she still bother saving anything for them?
Even the most mild-tempered person had their limits.
“Zora never left any extra ingredients. She only brought over exactly what we needed each time,” Mae answered honestly.
Anton had just walked in and overheard the conversation in the living room. He froze in place, stunned to hear Zora was the one providing Yale’s nourishing soup too.
“Why couldn’t any of you memorize the recipe?” Wendy chided angrily. “Now Zora’s gone, what is Yale supposed to drink? Honestly, how careless can you all be?”
Mae dared not reply. It was not her place to argue when her employer was upset.
No one could have guessed the family would drive Zora away in just two short months.
“It’s alright, Mom,” Yale cut in calmly. “Mae, just have the cook make me a bowl of oatmeal instead.”
“Right away, sir.” Mae bowed and stepped away.
Holden stood to the side, his heart heavy with unease.

He’d heard Zora had also prepared the calming herbal tonic for Anton…
He was the only one who got nothing.
Yale finished his bowl of oatmeal before heading back to his room. He spent a while catching up on work in his study before finally turning in for the night.
Still worn out from drinking at the banquet, his stomach continued to ache uncomfortably.
Lying in bed, sleep refused to come. He reached for his phone on the nightstand and pulled up his contact with Zora on WhatsApp.
He tapped open their chat.

Aside from the automatic system message sent when they first added each other, the two siblings had never exchanged a single word.
Yale tapped his fingers slowly against the screen, then typed out a message and sent it.
“Zora, where do you get the ingredients for your nourishing soup? Could you prepare some more for me? I’m happy to pay you for them.”
The words felt stiff and awkward, distant and forced.
Seconds later, a red error icon popped up. He was no longer on her friend list.
Yale sat there frozen in disbelief.
Far away, Zora knew nothing of what had happened at the Knox Villa.
For the past two days, she’d stuck strictly to her routine: attending classes, heading straight home, focusing only on her schoolwork. Her life was peaceful and undisturbed.
Before long, word came that a new apartment had been found for her.
Jensen moved quickly. Just two days later, he’d located the perfect place for Zora.
“Zora, come on. I’ll take you to see the new place.”
On the weekend, Jensen took Zora to view the apartment.
“This complex has top-tier security, full surrounding amenities, and it’s super close to school- only a five-minute walk. You can sleep in a little longer every morning.”
Jensen walked beside her as they wandered through the neighborhood grounds.
This was one of Seacrest’s most exclusive upscale gated communities, a residence only for the city’s wealthiest and most influential families.
The property sat right in the city center yet remained quiet and secluded, with Havenridge High School directly across the street.
It was a spacious 3,000 square foot apartment with a private garden.
Bright, airy, and tastefully furnished in soft off-white warm tones that Jensen had arranged in advance.
