Ethan took a step back, then moved up again, squaring off for a fight.

“Don’t think I’m scared of you. I know martial arts!”

He sounded tough, but his legs just wouldn’t stop shaking.

Jackson tilted his head toward his lackeys and gestured at Ethan.

“Teach him a lesson.”

When Ethan saw the thugs coming, he took a deep breath and charged at them.

He acted all fired up, but before he could even get close, one of the lackeys knocked him down with a punch. He lay there, unable to get up for a long time.

That was just embarrassing.

“This is the hero who came to save the day?” Jackson burst out laughing. “Kid, this world is too dangerous for you. Go home to your mommy! Ha!”

Jackson dragged the girl along, opened the van door, and tried to shove her inside.

Before he could get there, Cassia blocked the door.

As she looked at Ethan, she suddenly felt like stepping in.

When Jackson saw Cassia, he panicked right away.

All he had done was step on her dress at the gemstone market, yet he had been utterly crushed by her. The pain of that memory was still fresh in his mind.

It had felt like a brush with death itself.

This girl was still as cold as ever, and the way she stared was chilling.

Jackson’s voice shook without him realizing it, and his legs stepped back on their own. “What… what do you want? I didn’t step on your dress this time, I didn’t mess with you!”

Cassia raised her brows, her eyes icy.

“Let her go.”

Jackson was scared of Cassia, but her cool, almost mocking attitude made him angry all over again.

Last time, Sean from the gemstone market had her back, but now she was on her own.

Besides, he had two lackeys with him. If it really came down to it, there was no way this girl could handle three grown men in a fight.

“Wow, you’re funny! What’s this got to do with you? I’m supposed to let her go just because you said so? I’d have to be out of my mind to listen to you.”

Ethan, still playing hero, looked at Cassia with surprise at first, then worry.
