Cassia stood at the very back.

As the libero, to put it simply, her job was to pick up balls and keep them from hitting the ground.
Both teams went back and forth, attacking and defending.
Danica was the opposing team’s outside hitter, and to show off her skills, she naturally held nothing back.
Besides, Cassia was on the other side. She wanted to show all the boys that Cassia was all looks and no substance, forever a step below her and Brie.
“Brie, set me up!” Danica shouted, and Brie immediately set the ball to her.
Though Danica wasn’t very tall, she had a pretty good vertical leap.
She raised her arm and slammed the incoming ball down hard.
“Quick! Quick!” Rosalie shouted, directing her team.
It was absolutely no use. Danica had already reached the peak of her jump and was coming back down.
Sacha failed to receive Danica’s spike.
The ball was about to hit the sand…
“Cassia! Ball!” Rosalie shouted again.
The next second, Cassia easily received the ball and popped it up.
“Nice one!” Rosalie looked at Cassia with admiration, then called out again. “They’re not set yet. Quick attack!”
Before Danica’s feet had even touched the ground, the volleyball flew over the net and whizzed past her.
It hit the sand with an audible thud.
“Yes!” Rosalie and Sacha cheered excitedly and ran over to Cassia.

“Cassia, that was all you! I can’t believe you actually got Danica’s spike! That was amazing!”
The other girls on the team, whether they had been indifferent or unfriendly toward Cassia before, now found their opinion of her skyrocketing.
“That was so cool!”
“Seriously, Cassia, how did you even get that?”
Everyone was shocked.
Cassia was surrounded by several girls and wasn’t quite used to the attention. Her brows furrowed, making her look every bit the boss.
The girls in her class were used to seeing her like this. Before, they thought Cassia was arrogant and hard to get along with. But now, after seeing her return even Danica’s spike, they figured she had earned the right to be cocky.
“Tch! It was just one save. What’s the big deal anyway? She just got lucky!” Danica’s dismissive voice rang out.
The girls on Cassia’s team naturally sided with her.
“Luck is part of skill.”
“Exactly. And that spike was brutal. Someone without real ability couldn’t have returned it even if it flew right at them.”
Seeing so many people defend Cassia really ticked Danica off.
“Brie, set me up again later. I’m going to knock them down a peg!”
Brie smiled gently.
“Hey, we’re all classmates from the same school, just here to have fun. There’s no need to take it so seriously. Win or lose, it’s all the same.” After saying that, Brie clenched her fists at her sides.
Danica knew Brie would never show this publicly. Her sweet girl image wouldn’t allow her to disturb the peace among classmates.
Hmph, don’t worry, Brie. I’ll get revenge for you!
Thinking this, Danica turned to face Cassia’s team with a smirk, a mischievous glint in her
eyes.

The skill gap between the two teams was pretty significant. The girls on Cassia’s side were generally shorter, and none of them had a vertical leap like Danica’s, so their offense wasn’t anything to write home about.
Then it was Danica’s team’s turn to attack again.
“Danica! Don’t you hold back on them!” Tyne yelled.
“You don’t have to tell me twice!”
Danica shouted back, then jumped straight up. Watching the ball being set in front of her, she aimed directly at Cassia’s face and swung down hard.
The hit was powerful and lightning–fast.
Cassia watched the volleyball fly straight at her face, her beautiful eyes narrowing.
“Cassia! Dodge it!”
Rosalie and Sacha shouted frantically.
