Chapter 196 The Bottle on the Ground
Kaleb was holding a bottle of soda, gripping it a little too tightly.
“But… what if Mr. Hoge doesn’t agree?” Danica asked.

That was a valid concern. Even though Alfen had seen Cassia play volleyball, he probably didn’t believe she was ready to compete at the tournament level. So how would he agree to let Cassia take her place?
“Don’t worry. We’ll both assure Mr. Hoge that Cassia knows how to play volleyball and that she’s even competed before and did pretty well. I’m sure he’ll agree,” Brie said.
Danica thought it was a great plan. If Cassia ended up embarrassing herself at the tournament, they could put all the blame on her. It would be her own fault for choking.
After they finished scheming, they decided to go find the teacher right away.
“Danica, let me help you.” Brie extended her hand.
“It’s my hand that’s hurt, not my legs!” Danica said with a giggle.
As they walked out the door, the two sisters noticed a bottle of soda sitting on the ground.
Who left that there?
Kaleb and Byron were walking along a shaded path outside the hotel.
“I think we’re really overthinking this. Maybe Cassia actually has competed before? Otherwise, they wouldn’t be so confident.”
“Cassia has never competed in anything. She definitely doesn’t have any experience. At least, I’ve never heard her parents mention her being in any volleyball tournaments, and I’ve never seen any evidence of it either.”
Hearing Kaleb say that, Byron lowered his gaze and stayed silent for a moment before looking back up at Kaleb.
“So you’re saying Brie and Danica are doing this on purpose?”
On purpose to humiliate Cassia.

“Danica hates Cassia, so it’s definitely possible she’d do something like this.”

“I get why Danica would do it, but why would Brie?” Byron couldn’t wrap his head around it.
Kaleb found it hard to explain too.
Brie was a well–known prodigy among Zrario’s elite circles, while Cassia was infamous as a disgrace. The two were incomparable.,
It would make sense if Cassia was jealous of Brie and did something like this. But for Brie to do it? That made no sense at all.
If Brie was doing it to help her sister… but Brie didn’t seem to hate Cassia the way Danica did.
It just didn’t add up.
“I really think we’re overthinking it. But wait, I get why I might be suspicious, but you’re her closest friend. How can you be doubting her too?” Byron furrowed his brows.
“Even the closest friend is still just a friend,” Kaleb said quickly, afraid Byron might figure out his real relationship with Brie.
After saying that, Kaleb’s expression turned sour.
“Besides, I’m not really doubting her.”
“Okay, okay,” Byron said and dropped the subject.
The two boys continued walking in silence.
As they approached the beach, Byron couldn’t help but recall the image of Cassia spiking and blocking at the net earlier. He let out a sigh of admiration.
“So cool!”
Byron’s sudden outburst caught Kaleb off guard.
“What?”
“Cassia! I didn’t expect her to be so athletically gifted! And didn’t you hear what Alfen said? He wants to recommend her for the volleyball training camp. From the way he was talking, if she gets the right training, she might even represent our country at the Olympics someday! Damn! That’s impressive!” Byron grew more animated as he spoke. “You know, my family’s got people in business, politics, all kinds of fields. But we’ve never had an athlete.”

Kaleb was stunned by what Byron was saying.
:
“Wait, what are you getting at? Don’t tell me you’re thinking of going after Cassia?”
“I’m considering it.” Byron didn’t hide it from Kaleb.
