The more Aspen thought it through, the more convinced he became that it was likely the case. Now wasn’t the time to blame Cassia. The only thing he could do was prove his sincerity to Randy.
Aspen lowered his head toward Cassia. After thinking for a bit, he asked, “I heard out with Sterling?”
you moved
Randy looked at Cassia.
Moved out? Did she leave on her own, or was she kicked out? When she played chess with Henry before, she never mentioned it.
Cassia lifted her head, clearly annoyed. “I just want some peace.”
Why did everyone keep bothering her? First Brie, then Fiona, then Vance, and now Aspen.
If they only came to talk, fine. But none of them had pure motives.
She wasn’t blind to Aspen’s motives. He just wanted to use her.
“I’m your brother. I’m just concerned about you,” Aspen said, clearly putting on a show for Randy.
“Is that so?”
Cassia’s face held a trace of sarcasm.
“I’ve been gone for two months, and only now do you remember you’re my brother? Only now you care? Were you too busy before, or are you acting for someone else?”
Trying to use me? That depends on whether I allow it!
Her words cut straight through Aspen’s cover, laying his schemes out in the open.
Aspen felt more than his face burn–his whole body ached with embarrassment. He wished he could just disappear.
Randy wasn’t stupid either. After hearing Cassia, his contempt for Aspen only grew.
“Cassia, I know you’re upset with us, but you’re still part of the family. I truly care about you. I hope you’re not twisting my meaning on purpose,” Aspen said stiffly, forcing the words out.

“I said I want peace. You’re the one chasing attention.”
Cassia stood up, her tone steady but firm.

“You toss me something like charity and expect me to be grateful. And if I don’t accept it, then I’m wrong? That’s how people like you think.”
Her words dripped with mockery, and her flawless face carried a sharp, rebellious edge.
Aspen stared at her cool, stubborn expression, irritation written all over his face.
Randy’s view of Aspen sank even lower.
“Mr. Wood, Mr. Sawyer will never take you as his student. Just give up.”
Never?!
Aspen froze, staring at Randy in disbelief.
He had planned to use Cassia to change how Randy and Henry saw him. Instead, he backfired spectacularly and pushed himself into a dead end.
In the end, Aspen could only leave in shame, hiding in a corner by himself, his face dark and defeated.
Cassia looked away from him and turned to Seven. “I’m going to the restroom. Watch Sterling.”
“Don’t worry! I’ll take great care of him,” Seven said, scooting closer.
Sterling immediately moved away in disgust.
“Hey, kid, we need to talk. I just saved you from disaster. I’m not asking you to marry me like some fairy–tale princess, but at least give me a friendly look. Look at you-”
Once Seven started, he couldn’t stop.
Sterling roasted him silently in his head.
“You’re the kid.”
Whoa! He talked to me! More words now!
Seven stared at Sterling in shock, eyes wide like he’d discovered a new world.
“You’re the princess!” Sterling snapped again, clearly annoyed.
