Chapter 342 How Did She Know?
To Hugo, this was nothing but karma coming full circle.

“This all feels so sudden. There were no signs at all…” Vance said, shaken. “My mother was always fine. Yesterday she just suddenly-”
“There were signs,” Hugo said coldly. “You just chose not to see them. Your eldest daughter, Cassia, contacted me before. She and I observed Mrs. Wood together and confirmed long ago that something was already off.”
“What?” Vance was stunned. He never imagined that Cassia even knew the director of a psychiatric hospital.
After the shock came blame. “If she noticed something was wrong, why didn’t she tell us?”
“She did. You just didn’t listen,” Hugo replied flatly.
That sentence hit hard.
Vance suddenly remembered–back when Cassia still lived at home, she often reminded him that Victoria’s mental state didn’t seem right and that they should pay more attention.
At the time, he had scolded her for being rude and even accused her of cursing her own grandmother.
Now, hearing the same conclusion from the head of a top psychiatric hospital, Vance wished he could slap himself.
Why hadn’t he listened back then? If he had, maybe Victoria wouldn’t be like this now.
He let out a heavy sigh and asked seriously, “Then … is there any way to treat my mother now?”
“Mental hypersensitivity is a rare mental condition,” Hugo said. “With current medical methods, it’s very hard to fully cure. But there is one psychologist who has had a successful
case.”
Vance looked up sharply. “Who?”
“Dr. Mary.”
The memory ended.

Vance stood outside the psychiatric hospital, completely drained, staring blankly at the medical report in his hands–the one describing Victoria’s condition.
He didn’t know what to do.
Where was he even supposed to find Dr. Mary?
And how could he avoid triggering Victoria’s condition to get worse? Hugo had advised him to bring her home first, slowly treating her, without telling her the truth–just act like it was a simple misunderstanding.
Following Hugo’s instructions, Vance took things slow. He brought Victoria back home.
Seeing that Danica wasn’t home and Brie was, he thought about the three daughters–only three months away from their SAT–and decided not to disturb them. Once he had Victoria settled, he went to work.
But before he could tell the rest of the family about her condition, Cassia showed up at the house that evening.
The moment Victoria saw her, she was reminded of what had happened yesterday.
“You have the nerve to come back?”
She ranted about how, even though she had called the doctors herself, they had taken her
away.
Later, the hospital claimed it was a misunderstanding, and once Vance brought her home, it all made sense–but now she was convinced that Cassia had tricked all those people in white coats into taking her away on purpose.
The more she thought about it, the angrier she got.
Cassia didn’t bother looking at her. She went straight to the point. “Where’s Brie?”
“Why are you looking for her?” Victoria asked, eyes sharp, as if afraid Cassia might hurt her granddaughter.
Seeing the scene, Cassia only thought, This is hopeless.
Then, from Brie’s room, the sound of a piano rang out.
Cassia’s gaze slid past Victoria and toward the music.
“That’s awful.”

“Brie!” Cassia shouted toward the room. “I’ll count to three. If you don’t come out, I’m calling the cops!”
Cops?
Calling cops?
Victoria’s eyes widened as she suddenly remembered yesterday’s events.
“Cassia, you wouldn’t really do that, would you? Brie only made a mistake–she thought your painting was hers. And I already told you, it’s just a painting. You wanted it, you could’ve picked any from my room.”
Cassia ignored her, her gaze fixed on Brie’s door.
“One-”
The piano stopped.
“Two-”
Cassia pulled out her phone and dialed “911.”
