Chapter 486 I Believe I Can
She hung up.
A second later, the phone rang again…
Ring. Hang up. Ring. Hang up. Over and over.
Ethan wouldn’t quit. He kept calling.
Cassia finally snapped and blocked his number.
Silence at last.
Ethan stuck out his lower lip and stared at her name on the screen. He remained silent.
Did I do something wrong? Why did Cassia block me?
He tried calling again.
Beep.
“Sorry, the number you dialed is not available.”
Yeah. She really blocked him.
He dropped his head and tossed the phone aside, feeling down.
Twenty minutes later, his phone rang again.
He checked the caller ID–Cassia!
She’s calling me back?
Ethan grabbed the phone, his hand shaking a little with excitement.
The call connected.
“What’s up?” Cassia’s calm voice came through.

She had seen all the missed calls and thought something urgent must have happened. After finishing her online match, she removed him from the block list and called him herself.
This wasn’t the first time Ethan had tried to reach her.
Once, she had opened a blocked message notice out of boredom and saw a text from an unknown number.
Since the number couldn’t get through, it sent a message saying it was Ethan.
She had never given him her phone number, so she guessed he must have saved it when she moved Sterling out of the Zimmer Residence and into Dunstino Bay
When she asked him about it, Ethan admitted it.

Because of that, she had blocked him for a long time.
The truth was, Ethan didn’t even have anything important to say.
“Cassia, SATs are over. How do you think you did?”
“I did okay.” Cassia leaned back in her chair, relaxed and loose.

“Have you thought about what college you want to go to? Or where do you think you’ll get in?” Ethan thought, I should ask where she wants to go. When applications open, I’ll apply there too.
“Vego University,” Cassia said in a calm tone.
“Vego University?” Ethan paused.
Vego University was one of the two top schools in Sahar. Could I even get in?
“That place is really hard to get into. The cutoff score is always over 1280…”
His practice test scores were usually above 1067, but Vego University still felt far away.
“Actually, Petrikor University is pretty good too. Beautiful campus, nice weather. People even call it the most beautiful campus in
Sahar.”
He said that hoping Cassian might consider picking a different school.
“I believe I can.” Cassia lowered her eyes and glanced at the Vego University Early Admission Letter lying on the desk.
If she was going to college, she was going to the best one.
“I see…” Ethan sounded a little disappointed.
Now he could only hope he had somehow done amazingly well on the exams.
“So you called just to ask that?” Cassia said, a hint of impatience in her voice.
“Uh…” Ethan didn’t know how to answer.
If he said yes, would she hang up?
“No, I had something else too”
He quickly tried to think of another topic.
“W–what are you doing right now?”
Honestly, he just wanted to hear her voice.
“Nothing much. Just playing games to kill time.” Cassia glanced at her phone When she saw that Draven wasn’t online in theit usual game, she lost interest.
She opened her computer and launched a chess app.
The moment she logged in, she got a match invite from a user named Tianxia.

She accepted without thinking.
“What game are you playing?” Ethan kept the awkward conversation going.

“Nothing special. Just bored, playing a few rounds of an online board game.” Cassia clicked the mouse while talking, doing both at
once.
When Ethan heard she was playing a board game, he felt relieved–they finally had something in common.
“I–I like board games too. Are you playing Ludo?”
“Chess.”
Ethan froze, embarrassed. “O–oh, Chess… yeah. That’s really hard. My grandpa taught me a little when I was a kid, but I got bored and stopped playing.”
What do I do? Cassia likes chess, and I only know Ludo and tic–tac–toe. We don’t even share the same hobby!
After a moment of struggle, he made a decision-
Starting tonight–no, starting tomorrow–he would sign up for a chess club. He’d find a coach and learn properly. Even if it was boring, he would stick with it.
Still, he felt he should ask one more thing. “Cassia, what’s your level in chess?”
“I’ve never tested it,” Cassia said honestly.
Hearing that, Ethan quietly let out a breath.
If she’d never tested her level, that probably meant she was just around beginner or casual level. That should make things much easier.
