Chapter 517 The Connection

Cassia murmured under her breath, “It seems he was right.”

A Jake had also warned her that digging too deep might expose her to a counter–investigation and retaliation, held told her to watch

“Nathan only acts this way because he has Eagle as a shield. If we pull Eagle out by the roots, we can finally bury that father–son duo for good.” Richard was hell–bent on quickly eliminating the social scum that were Nathan and Bryan.

“If ‘Eagle‘ really is part of an organization, then based on what you said, he’s likely a high–level figure,” Cassia mused, rubbing her chin.

‘Logically, someone like that shouldn’t care about small fry like Nathan and Bryan. Even if they joined the organization, they’d just be cannon fodder. So how come you still can’t deal with them?”

Richard sighed heavily.

I thought the same thing. Once, I sent men to grab Nathan and Bryan, take them somewhere remote, and end the problem for good. But my men never came back. A few days later, their bodies turned up in the river behind Chesthale Peak.”

‘No. As long as it’s just a beating, nothing happens,” Richard replied. “Even though I can’t track down Eagle, I’ve dug into their amily history–no blood ties to anyone powerful. It’s strictly a professional hierarchy between them and Eagle.”

‘That means Nathan and Bryan have some specific value to Eagle or the organization,” Cassia theorized. “As long as they stay alive, obody interferes. But the moment you tried to kill them, Eagle struck back.”

Richard thought it over and nodded. That tracked.

“If all they care about is keeping those two alive, then we still have options.” A cold smirk tugged at Cassia’s lips. “And I’m waiting on Jake’s report. As you said, to Kill the weeds, you have to kill the root. Besides, Eagle still has my three crates of poppies.”

Just then, Ursula emerged from the kitchen carrying a fragrant, steaming platter of braised chicken.

“Dinner’s ready!”

“Boss, let’s eat first. We can head to the plantation this afternoon.” Richard stood up from the couch.

“Mm.”

Cassia followed Richard to the dining room, where everyone gathered around the table.

Meanwhile, two of Nathan’s lackeys were creeping toward the main road. From a distance, they spotted two figures dangling from a makeshift wooden frame by the dusty roadside, looking like human kebabs.

These two were none other than Nathan and Bryan.

They were in utter misery. After three straight hours in 90–degree heat, both of them were badly sunburned. Rashes had broken out on their faces, necks, and the backs of their hands, with diffuse erythema covering their skin.

They looked as though they had shed a layer of skin.
