Chapter 103
Chapter 103
Ámorah POV
The message from Bethany stayed open on the screen between Conrad and me while silence filled the room around us. I leaned back slowly in my chair and read the words again, forcing myself to stay calm even though anger pressed hard against my chest.
“Come alone if you actually want the truth.”
“She wants control again,” he muttered.
I folded my arms and looked toward the security monitors lining the office wall. “No. She wants a reaction.”
“You are not meeting her alone,” he stated.
I exhaled slowly before meeting his gaze. “I already know that.”
“She exposed herself too quickly after the leak in Blackwater,” he continued. “That means she either wants to trap you emotionally or distract us from something else.”
“That is exactly why I want to handle this carefully,” I replied.
Conrad studied me quietly for a moment before nodding.
Instead, he trusted me enough to stand beside him while we figured things out together.
“We do this my way,” I told him firmly. “No rushing toward her. No emotional decisions.”
A faint look crossed his face then, almost amused despite the situation. “You are giving me orders now?”
“You are difficult when it comes to Bethany,” I answered.
“That is because she keeps targeting my family.”
Before I could answer, a knock sounded against the office door.
“Enter,” Conrad called.
One of the intelligence wolves stepped inside carrying a tablet and several printed reports. He stopped near the desk and lowered his head respectfully toward both of us.
“We confirmed the location in Blackwater Territory,” he reported. “Bethany rented the property under a false business identity three weeks ago.”
I stood from the chair immediately and reached for the reports. “What kind of property?”
“A private residence near the western district,” he answered. “Minimal security outside, but movement around the building has increased since the leak exposing her identity.”
Conrad moved beside me as we reviewed the files together. Surveillance images showed wolves entering and leaving the property at different hours, though most of the faces remained unfamiliar.
“She still has supporters,” Conrad said coldly.
“She has loyalists,” I corrected quietly. “There is a difference.”
The intelligence wolf nodded slightly. “Most of them have connections to displaced Alpha territories or anti–council

groups.”

I exchanged a look with Conrad immediately because that confirmed exactly what I already suspected. Bethany was not building random alliances anymore.
She was building resentment.
“Keep watching the property,” Linstructed. “No engagement yet.”
The wolf looked briefly toward Conrad before answering. “Understood.”
After he left. I placed the reports back onto the desk and rubbed my temple slowly. Fatigue hit harder lately because of the pregnancy, but I refused to let it weaken my focus.
Conrad noticed anyway.
“You need rest,” he said quietly.
“I need Bethany finished first.”
His hand settled carefully against my waist before he guided me toward the couch near the windows. I sat down reluctantly while he disappeared briefly into the adjoining kitchen area.
A minute later, he returned carrying food and a glass of water without asking whether I wanted either.
“You are becoming controlling again,” I murmured.
“You skipped lunch.”
I accepted the plate anyway because arguing felt pointless now.
“You were right earlier,” Conrad admitted suddenly.
I glanced toward him. “About what?”
“Bethany survives because people react emotionally to her.” He leaned back against the couch and loosened the collar of his shirt slightly. “Holmes keeps making that mistake.”
“And you?”
His eyes moved toward me slowly. “I used to.”
The honesty in his voice made my chest tighten again.
I reached for his hand without thinking, and his fingers closed around mine immediately. Moments like this no longer felt awkward between us because we had already crossed too many emotional lines to pretend distance still existed.
A loud argument suddenly echoed from the hallway outside the office.
“I told you I can handle training myself.”
“You almost broke your arm yesterday.”
The door burst open before either guard outside could stop them completely. Zane walked in first looking irritated, while Kyra followed close behind him with her reading tablet pressed against her chest.
Conrad sighed heavily. “What happened now?”
“Nothing,” Zane answered quickly.

“He ignored instructions again,” Kyra corrected.
“I did not ignore them.”
“You challenged wolves older than you.”
“They were slow.”

I fought back a laugh as Conrad pinched the bridge of his nose tiredly. Zane immediately noticed the food in my hands and crossed the room toward me without hesitation.
“You finally ate something,” he muttered.
Kyra climbed onto the couch beside me carefully before placing one hand lightly against my stomach. The baby probably likes when Conrad cooks better.”
Conrad looked offended instantly. “I am standing right here.”
“That is why I said it,” Kyra replied seriously.
I laughed quietly this time, and even Conrad failed to hide the faint smile pulling at his mouth. Watching the four of us together still felt strange sometimes because none of this was supposed to become real.
Yet somewhere along the way, it had.
