The transmission screen remained frozen in front of us while silence spread across the office. Bethany’s statement had already started exploding through Alpha channels before we could contain it.

I leaned back slowly in my chair and rubbed a hand across my face. The council was losing control faster than even I expected.

“They’re panicking already,” I muttered.

Amorah stood near the desk reading incoming territory responses one after another. The tension around her stayed controlled, but I could still see exhaustion pressing into her shoulders.

“Some territories are demanding emergency investigations,” she said quietly.

“Of course they are.”

I looked toward the large monitor displaying council updates. Multiple Alpha territories had already begun questioning whether another heir connected to the Supreme Alpha line had been hidden intentionally while the twins‘ bloodline disappeared from official records.

The situation was turning dangerous quickly.

Bethany had spent years manipulating everyone around her, but now she knew too much for frightened council wolves to tolerate safely.

Amorah crossed her arms slowly. “If they kill her now, we lose half the truth.”

I nodded once. “And they know it.”

The office doors opened moments later when Elias entered carrying updated council reports. His expression looked tense immediately.

“Several elders are demanding private emergency meetings,” he informed me.

“Which elders?”

“Mostly the older succession factions.”

Amorah let out a slow breath beside me. “They’re trying to protect themselves.”

“You haven’t rested properly in two days,” she said.

“Neither have you.”

“That’s different.”

I almost laughed softly. “No, it isn’t.”

She moved closer until she stood directly between my knees. My hands settled naturally against her waist while she looked down at me carefully.

“You’re carrying everything again,” she said quietly.

“I’m trying not to.”

Her expression softened immediately. “Then stop trying to do it alone.”

Later that evening, we forced ourselves into something resembling a normal family dinner for the twins. The tension around the territory remained obvious, but neither of us wanted Zane and Kyra drowning in council politics constantly.

Zane sat across from me picking apart his food while Kyra leaned heavily against Amorah’s side. The nursery plans still sat folded on the dining table nearby from earlier discussions.

“Can we stop talking about elders tonight?” Zane asked suddenly.

Amorah looked at him carefully. “Did someone bring it up again?”

“Everyone keeps whispering.”

Kyra pushed food around her plate quietly. “The guards sound nervous.”

I exchanged a brief glance with Amorah before answering. “Things are tense right now.”

Zane scoffed softly. “That’s not an answer.”

“No,” I admitted. “It isn’t.”

The frustration in his face reminded me too much of myself at that age. He wanted honesty badly enough to resent every softened explanation we gave him.

Amorah reached over and touched his wrist gently. “We’re handling it.”

His jaw tightened immediately. “What if people try separating us again?”

The room went silent for a second.

Kyra looked down quickly while Amorah’s expression changed instantly beside me. She moved her chair closer to Zane without hesitation.

“That won’t happen,” she said firmly.

“You can’t promise that.”

“Yes, I can.”

He finally looked at her directly. The anger in his expression cracked slightly when he saw how serious she sounded.

“We’re staying together,” she continued quietly. “No matter what the council does.”

Kyra’s eyes watered immediately. “Really?”
