Chapter 122
Amorah’s POV

The moment Holmes demanded a private audience publicly, silence spread across the council chamber like everyone expected me to hesitate. I did not feel fest when I heard his request. I felt tired of him.
Conrad walked beside me as we returned to the territory after the session ended. His hand stayed against my lower back the entire time like he already knew I needed grounding more than comfort.
“You do not have to meet him,” Conrad said quietly once we entered our quarters.
“I know,” I answered.
He studied my face carefully while I removed my coat slowly. I realized then that he was waiting for signs of panic that
never came.
“That worries me more,” he admitted.
I looked at him and crossed my arms over my chest. “Because I’m calm?”
“Because Holmes used to hurt you emotionally whenever he wanted,” Conrad replied. “And now you look at him like he means nothing.”
The truth settled heavily inside me because he was right. Somewhere between the betrayal, the pregnancy, the twins, and everything Bethany destroyed, I had stopped loving Holmes completely.
I sat on the edge of the bed carefully while exhaustion pulled at my body again. Conrad immediately moved closer without thinking and rested his hand against my stomach.
“You should rest,” he said.
“I’m tired of resting while everyone else keeps deciding things about my life,” I muttered.
Conrad’s thumb brushed softly over my stomach before he looked up at me. “Then decide what happens next yourself.”
That answer stayed with me longer than he probably realized. Holmes once controlled every emotional reaction I had because I spent years trying to prove I was enough for him.
Conrad never asked me to prove anything.
“You really trust me to handle this?” I asked quietly.
“I trust you more than anyone in this territory,” he answered immediately.
Something inside my chest tightened painfully at how honest he sounded. Holmes always made trust feel conditional, temporary, and dangerous.
Conrad made it feel safe.
Later that evening, Kyra sat beside me on the nursery floor while organizing folded baby clothes into uneven piles. She looked unusually serious while staring down at the tiny blankets.
“This one looks too small,” she said.
“The baby is still small,” I reminded her gently.

yra frowned and–held the blanket against herself. “What if the baby hates blankets?”

I laughed softly before taking the blanket from her hands. “Then Conrad will probably buy fifty more until the baby likes
one.”
“That sounds true,” she admitted.
Zane walked into the nursery carrying a box almost bigger than him. He dropped it near the wall with an annoyed expression.
“Training got canceled again because of another council meeting,” he complained.
Kyra rolled her eyes immediately. “You complain every day.”
“Because adults ruin everything every day,” Zane snapped back.
I exchanged a look with Kyra while Zane crouched beside the box angrily. His moods had become easier to understand lately because he stopped hiding every emotion behind silence.
Conrad appeared in the doorway a moment later wearing a tired expression. The second Zane saw him, some of the anger faded automatically.
“Did they finish arguing yet?” Zane asked.
“For today,” Conrad replied.
“That means they’ll start again tomorrow,” Kyra muttered.
Conrad sighed and walked toward us slowly. He crouched beside the box Zane carried and opened it carefully.
Inside were wooden–stars meant for the nursery ceiling.
“You bought decorations?” I asked in surprise.
Conrad glanced at me briefly. “The twins said the room looked unfinished.”
Kyra brightened immediately while Zane tried pretending he was not excited. Watching all three of them together made something warm settle inside me again.
This did not feel temporary anymore.
Later that night, I stood alone near the balcony doors while looking over the dark territory grounds below. Conrad wrapped his arms around me from behind without speaking at first.
“You already made your decision,” he said quietly.
“Yes.”
“You’re meeting him.”
“I need to.”
Conrad stayed silent for several seconds before resting his chin lightly against my shoulder. His heartbeat stayed steady against my back.
“I know,” he admitted.

turned slowly inside his arms until I faced him directly. The exhaustion around his eyes had become more noticeable lately, but he still looked at me like I was something worth protecting.
“I’m not going there because still love him,” I
“I said carefully.
Conrad’s jaw tightened slightly. “I know that too.”
“No.” I corrected softly. “I need you to really understand it.”
His expression shifted immediately after hearing my tone. I reached for his hand slowly and pressed it against my again.

“I spent years believing losing Holmes meant losing my worth,” I admitted quietly. “Now I look at him and wonder why I ever begged someone like that to stay.”
Conrad stared at me silently for several moments. Then he leaned down and pressed his forehead gently against mine.
“You were never the problem,” he said.
The words hurt more than I expected because part of me still carried old damage I had not fully faced yet. Holmes cheated publicly, humiliated me publicly, and left me questioning myself for years afterward.
Conrad never once made me feel difficult to love.
“I think I finally understand that now,” I whispered.
His hand slid carefully against my waist while he kissed me slowly. There was nothing desperate or uncertain between us
anymore.
Everything about us felt steady now.
Later, after we settled into bed together, Conrad pulled me closer against his chest automatically. I rested my head against him while exhaustion finally started winning.
“What happens after the baby is born?” I asked quietly into the darkness.
Conrad answered without hesitation. “We raise our family.”
The next afternoon, I finally agreed to meet Holmes privately inside one of the secured council buildings near the territory border. Conrad let me go only after placing hidden guards throughout the area himself.
