Chapter 136
Amorah PO
I could not stop staring at Conrad after he read the witness report aloud. The words repeated inside my head so many times that my chest started hurting from the pressure building there.
The wrong child. My mother died protecting the wrong child.
Kyra and Zane had gone upstairs already after Conrad ended the conversation carefully, but I still felt their wolves lingering anxiously around me through the bond forming between us. Even the baby inside me felt restless beneath my skin.
“Amorah,” Conrad said quietly.
I looked at him finally, and the concern on his face nearly broke something inside me completely. I sat down slowly on the couch because my legs suddenly felt weak.
“What if none of this started with Holmes?” I whispered.
Conrad moved beside me immediately. One arm wrapped around my shoulders while his other hand rested gently against my stomach.
“We’ll figure it out.”
“That’s the problem,” I admitted shakily. “Every answer just makes everything worse.”
He stayed quiet after that because there was nothing comforting enough to erase the fear growing inside me now. My entire life suddenly felt unstable in ways I could not fully understand yet.
Why were my mother’s records erased?
Why did my former pack isolate me so quickly after the betrayal?
Why did bloodline wolves react strangely around my pregnancy?
Why did Kyra and Zane attach themselves to me almost immediately?
None of it felt accidental anymore.
I pressed my hands against my face and tried controlling my breathing. My wolf paced violently beneath my skin while old
r memories started resurfacing faster than I could stop them.
My mother always acted nervous whenever pack elders visited our home unexpectedly. She stopped letting me attend bloodline ceremonies after a certain age, even when other children were encouraged to go.
At the time. I thought she was simply overprotective. Now I was not sure anymore.
“Look at me.” Conrad said softly.
I lowered my hands slowly.
“You don’t have to solve everything tonight”
“But what if my mother died because of this?” I asked quietly. my life?”

in crossed his free immediately. Conrad hated hearing Holmes connected to me at all now, even indirectly.
He pulled me closer until my head rested against his chest. His scent surrounded me instantly, calming my wolf enough that I could finally breathe property again.
“You survived every single thing they tried to do to you,” he murmured against my hare. “That matters”
I started crying quietly before I could stop myself.
Conrad tightened his arms around me immediately, but he did not interrupt or tell me to calm down. He just held me there while years of buried grief finally surfaced all at once.
“I miss her,” I whispered brokenly. “I don’t even fully remember her voice anymore”
His hand moved slowly through my hair.
“She loved you.”
“They erased her like she never existed.”
“But you still do.”
That made me cry harder because he said it so simply, like it should have been obvious all along. My mother survived through me whether the council erased records or not.
Eventually Conrad carried me upstairs after exhaustion started settling heavily into my body. Pregnancy already made emotional stress harder physically, and lately even small tension left me drained for hours afterward.
The moment he laid me down, my wolf reached instinctively for his closeness. Conrad noticed immediately and climbed into bed beside me without hesitation.
I curled against him. “I keep having nightmares,” I admitted quietly.
“What kind?”
I swallowed hard. “People taking the twins away.”
His arms tightened around me instantly. “Nobody’s taking them.”
“What if they try?”
“Then they’ll have to come through me first.”
I looked up at him slowly after that. The certainty in his expression made my chest ache painfully in the best way.
Conrad always sounded most dangerous when protecting family.
I touched his face gently while emotion still lingered heavily inside me. Then I leaned forward and kissed him slowly because suddenly I needed reassurance more than words.
He kissed me back carefully at first. But when my fingers slid into his hair, his control weakened immediately.
The kiss deepened slowly. Every touch felt emotional now, like both of us were trying to hold the other together quietly after everything unraveling around us.
“I love you,” I whispered against his mouth before I could stop myself.
