Chapter 146
Chapter 146
Conrad POV
I kept staring at the restored file long after the intelligence wolf left my office quietly, Kyra’s name remained attached beneath the same protected heir classification connected to Amorah’s childhood records.
My wolf reacted instantly to the discovery. Protective instincts flooded my chest so aggressively that I almost called additional guards toward the residence immediately.
Instead, I forced myself to calm down before returning upstairs. Amorah already carried enough fear inside her without me adding more tension to the house tonight.
When I entered the bedroom, I found her sitting against the headboard wearing one of my sweaters loosely over her swollen stomach. The tablet screen beside her displayed the same childhood files she had been rereading for hours.
She looked emotionally exhausted.
Her scent carried confusion, fear, and grief so strongly that my wolf softened immediately.
“You’re still awake,” I said quietly while walking toward the bed.
Amorah glanced up slowly before giving me a tired look. “I tried sleeping.”
I climbed onto the mattress beside her carefully before pulling the tablet away gently. She did not fight me over it this time.
“That file isn’t changing tonight,” I murmured.
“My whole life apparently did,” she replied softly.
I wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her against my chest slowly. The baby shifted almost immediately between
Amorah rested her forehead against my shoulder afterward. “I don’t even know which memories feel real anymore.”
“They’re all real,” I told her quietly. “Someone manipulating records doesn’t erase the person you became.”
She stayed silent for several seconds before finally relaxing slightly against me. My wolf calmed once her heartbeaz slowed closer to normal again.
“I hate this feeling,” she admitted. “I feel like everyone knew things about me except me.”
I kissed the side of her head gently. “Then we’ll uncover it together.”
She looked emotionally drained enough that pushing more conversations tonight felt cruel. So instead of discussing bloodline conspiracies again, I decided something else immediately.
The next morning, I canceled every nonessential council meeting.
Amorah noticed almost immediately while I helped her into a heavy winter coat near the front entrance. Her suspicious expression almost made me laugh.
“What did you do?” she asked carefully.
“Nothing illegal,” I answered.

Kyra rushed downstairs before I could respond properly. She wore bright silver gloves and nearly tripped over her own boots from excitement,
“Are we really going to the winter market?” she asked loudly.
“Yes,” I replied.
Zane appeared behind her looking much calmer outwardly, though his wolf scent carried obvious interest. He folded his arms immediately after noticing Kyra bouncing around the hallway.
“I only agreed because staying home sounded boring,” he muttered.
Kyra rolled her eyes dramatically. “You literally asked if they had caramel pastries yesterday.”
“I was gathering information.” Zane argued.
Amorah laughed quietly beside me for the first time since reading the files. The sound alone made the entire decision worth it.
The private winter market sat deep inside northern werewolf territory beneath heavy security barriers and scent-shield technology. Snow covered the streets lightly while glowing lights stretched between buildings above the crowded pathways. The moment we entered the market district, the baby reacted sharply beneath Amorah’s coat. She instinctively grabbed my arm while exhaling slowly.
I stopped immediately. “Too crowded?”
“A little,” she admitted.
Without hesitation, I pulled her closer against my side while guiding her through the crowd more carefully. My wolf instincts stayed aggressively alert the entire time.
Kyra ran ahead toward a dessert stall before any of us could stop her properly. Zane groaned dramatically before following after her anyway.
“She’s going to buy something terrible,” he predicted.
“She inherited your taste,” Amorah replied innocently.
Zane looked horrified. “That’s offensive.”
Several minutes later, Kyra returned carrying four cups overflowing with whipped cream, syrup, and things I could not identify confidently. Even the scent smelled dangerous.
“I invented new hot chocolate combinations,” she announced proudly.
Zane stared into his cup with deep suspicion. “Why is mine green?”
“Because mint chocolate is sophisticated,” Kyra answered immediately.
Amorah nearly choked trying not to laugh while watching Zane take a cautious sip. His expression twisted instantly
afterward.
“That tastes illegal,” he complained.
