Chapter 157: The Baby Shower Nobody Survived
The evidence linking Bethany’s family to my downfall stayed in my mind for days afterward. No matter how hard I tried to focus on the present, pieces of the past kept finding ways to follow me.
By the end of the week, I was exhausted from thinking about conspiracies, bloodlines, and old betrayals. My pregnancy had advanced enough that even walking up the stairs sometimes left me needing a few minutes to recover
Conrad noticed every change immediately. He had become so attentive lately that sometimes he reacted before I even realized I needed help.

“Noberly had ever done something like this for me before. Not when I was married to Holmes.
Kyra suddenly looked nervous. You like it, right?”
I pulled her into a hug immediately. “I love it.”
Her entire face lit up.
Zane looked relieved too, though he pretended therwise.
Guests began arriving throughout the afternoon. Close friends and trusted wolves. People who had become family over the past months
The atmosphere felt completely different from the gatherings I remembered from my previous life.
Nobody was measuring status. Nobody was competing. Nobody wanted anything from me.
They were simply happy to be there. That realization affected me more than I expected.
Several hours into the celebration, the baby became unusually active. One particularly strong kick made me gasp. Conrad was beside me instantly.
“You okay?”
I laughed softly.
“The baby is apparently hosting their own party.”
Kyra’s eyes widened.
“Can I feel?”
I nodded.
She carefully placed both hands against my stomach.
A second later, the baby kicked again.
Kyra shrieked.
“Oh my God!”
Everyone nearby turned to look.
“The baby kicked me!”
Zane rolled his eyes.
“The baby didn’t kick you.”
“It did.”
“It kicked Amorah.”
Kyra ignored him completely.
Several guests immediately wanted turns. Before long, a line had formed.
I found the entire situation ridiculous.
The baby seemed to enjoy the attention. Every few minutes another kick appeared.
Conrad eventually placed his hand against my stomach as well. The baby responded instantly.
His expression softened.
I loved seeing that look on his face.

It happened more often lately. The closer we moved toward becoming parents, the more emotional he became. Not that he would ever admit it publicly. A few minutes later, one of Conrad’s older friends crouched beside me.
“Future Alpha,” he announced dramatically toward my stomach.
“You should kick twice if you plan on being trouble.”
The baby immediately kicked. The entire room burst into laughter.
“That’s not a good sign,” Zane muttered.
Kyra pointed at him.

“You ate crayons.”
“They looked colorful”
The argument continued for several minutes. Even Conrad started laughing.
Watching the twins now felt different than it had months ago.
They were still children
Still stubborn. Still capable of arguing about absolutely anything
But they were growing too. More thoughtful and more protective. More aware of the people around them.
Especially when it came to family.
Later, Kyra disappeared briefly before returning with a stack of handmade bracelets.
She handed one to me carefully.
“I made these for the baby.”
The bracelet was slightly uneven.
I loved it immediately.
“It’s beautiful.*
Kyra beamed.
Zane reluctantly produced another bracelet from his pocket.
“I helped.”
Kyra gasped dramatically.
“You said nobody needed to know that.”
“I changed my mind.”
The room erupted into laughter again.
As evening approached, the celebration finally began winding down. Guests slowly started leaving,
Decorations remained scattered throughout the hall.
The twins were exhausted but trying very hard not to admit it.
Eventually, they disappeared upstairs.
For the first time all day, the house became quiet.
Conrad found me standing alone near one of the windows. His arms wrapped around me from behind immediately.
I leaned back against him, and neither of us spoke for several seconds. The silence felt comfortable, safe, and unlike anything I had experienced before.
“I never thought I’d have this,” I admitted quietly.
Conrad rested his chin on my shoulder.
“Have what?”
I watched the last guests leave through the front entrance before answering.
“A family.”
The words felt surprisingly emotional.
“I thought that part of my life was gone forever.”
Conrad tightened his hold slightly.
“It isn’t.”
I swallowed hard.
“I spent years believing I wasn’t enough,”
His answer came immediately.
“You always were.”

turned slightly toward him.
“What about you?”
His hand settled gently over my stomach.
“What about me?”
I smiled softly
“Did you ever imagine any of this?”
Conrad looked down at me for several seconds before shaking his head.
“No.”
I waited
His expression softened.
“I stopped imagining a future without you months ago.”
The confession stole my breath. He kissed me slowly, not urgently or desperately, but just enough to make my chest ache. For a few moments, nothing else mattered. Not Holmes, not bloodlines, and not old secrets.
Just us.
A sharp knock suddenly interrupted the moment. We both turned and saw one of the security wolves standing near the entrance, his expression immediately making my stomach tighten.
Conrad noticed too.
“What is it?”
The wolf stepped forward holding a small package.
“It was delivered anonymously.”
The room seemed to grow colder. Conrad accepted the package carefully while my wolf instincts stirred uneasily. Something felt wrong.
Conrad opened it cautiously.
Several photographs slid onto the table. I froze instantly.
My heartbeat stopped.
Every photograph showed me as a child, years before I met Holmes, years before my exile, and years before any of this began.
My hands started shaking. Nobody should have possessed these pictures.
