Chapter 159
Amorah POV
The room stayed quiet for a few seconds after Conrad read the report again. I watched his express learned that when Conrad went still like that, something serious had just landed in his hande
The idea that a dead council member was in my childhood photographs made everything feel unstable in a way I ignore.
One of the intelligence wolves broke the silence first. “We rechecked the death record three times” he said. “Aldr declared deceased twelve years ago after a council incident.”
Zane immediately frowned. “So either the record is wrong or the photograph is wrong.”
Kyra shook her head. “Photographs don’t just lie like that.”
“They do if someone edits them,” Zane replied.
Kyra pointed at him. “That’s what I said.”
“You said they don’t just lie.‘ That is not the same thing.”
I almost smiled, but Conrad stayed focused on the tablet in his hand. That told me this was not a simple réstake in records.
“Keep both possibilities open,” Conrad said calmly. “But prioritize verifying the identity through biometric archives.”
The intelligence wolf nodded quickly and left the room.
I leaned back slightly, my hand resting on my stomach. The baby had been moving less since earlier, which usually meant was reacting to stress in the environment. I did not like how often that was happening lately.
Conrad noticed immediately. He stepped closer and adjusted the blanket around my shoulders without asking.
“You should sit,” he said.
“I am sitting.”
“You are tense sitting.”
Kyra watched us for a second before speaking. “She is always tense when adults act like something is Ending the world.”
Zane nodded. “Because it usually is.”
Conrad didn’t respond to them. He only guided me toward the chair near the window and stayed beside me
The next few hours passed with continuous updates. Intelligence wolves cross–checked council archives, transport and old security logs connected to the succession purge period. The more they found, the less the official story made
Eventually, one of them returned holding a folder instead of a tablet.
“We found a pattern,” he said.
Conrad took the folder immediately. “Explain.”

The woman in the photograph–Aldric Voss–appears in multiple protection network logs.” he said “But not as a council member. She appears as an external handler.
Kyra tilted her head. “What does that mean?”
Zane answered before anyone else could. “It means she was helping move people without officially being part of the
council.”
The wolf nodded. “Correct.”
My chest tightened slightly. “Move people like children?”
The room went quiet again.
Conrad flipped through the folder slowly. “Continue.”
The wolf hesitated before speaking again. “There are coded references to a three–child transport sequence. Not two.
I felt my breath slow without meaning to. Kyra and Zane both looked up at the same time.
Zane spoke first. “That matches what we saw before.”

Kyra added quickly. “Three children were always together in those images.”
Conrad didn’t correct them. He just kept reading.
Then he stopped.
“What is it?” I asked.
He didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he turned the page again as if confirming what he had just seen.
Finally, he spoke.
“She wasn’t just present during the transport network,” he said. “She helped design it.”
I frowned. “Why would a council member protect children during a purge she supported?”
“That’s what we don’t understand yet,” Conrad replied.
Kyra leaned forward on the table. “Maybe she changed her mind.”
Zane shook his head. “People in the council don’t just change their minds and risk everything.”
Kyra crossed her arms. “That sounds like your opinion, not a fact.”
“It is based on observation.”
“Observation is still opinion with confidence.”
I rubbed my temple slightly. “Can we focus?”
They both stopped immediately.
Conrad placed a hand lightly on my back. “We are close to a conclusion,” he said. “But it is incomplete.”
