Conrad POV

The moment Amorah told me something felt different, every instinct inside me came alive at once. I was out of bed before she finished speaking, and within seconds. I had already reached for my phone. My wolf was convinced the baby was coming.
“Call the doctor.” I ordered immediately. “Wake everyone.”
Amorah stared at me from the edge of the bed while another wave of discomfort passed through her. Instead of looking frightened, she looked mildly confused by my reaction. That should have been my first clue that I was overreacting.
Within five minutes, the entire estate was awake.
Medical staff were racing toward the main house. Security teams were moving through hallways. Several guards looked terrified because they thought some kind of emergency attack was happening.
Amorah watched the chaos from our bedroom and pinched the bridge of her nose. I was busy helping her get dressed while simultaneously issuing instructions to three different people through my phone. Looking back, I probably sounded insane.
The doctor strived frs. Two mines th
arrived behind him. Then somehow Lyra appeared carrying blankets.
Then Zane arrived fully dressed despite it being the middle of the night. Then Kyra arrived wearing one slipper and crying.
“I missed it!” she wailed dramatically.
“You didn’t miss anything,” Amorah said.
“The baby’s already here, isn’t it?”
“No.”
Kyra burst into fresh tears anyway.
The doctor attempted to begin an examination while Zane stood nearby looking determined to be useful. Unfortunately, his version of being useful mostly involved asking questions every thirty seconds. After the tenth interruption, the doctor threatened to assign him to hallway duty.
Meanwhile, I continued preparing for what I believed was imminent labor. Rags were packed, transportation was arranged, and every possible contingency plan was reviewed. I even had security preparing a route to the hospital.
Amorah watched me with increasing disbelief.
“Conrad.”
I looked up immediately. “What?”
“You packed six bags.”
“We need supplies.”
“For a week?”
“We don’t know how long we’ll be there.”

the nurse actually laughed. I ignored her. Nearly an hour later, the examination was finally complete.
The doctor looked far calmer than I liked. “What does that mean?” I asked.
“It means your mate is not crently in labor.
The room became completely silent.
I stared at him. “What?”
“She isn’t in labor.”
I looked at Amorah. Then back at the doctor. Then back at Amorah again.
The doctor folded his arms. “False alarm.”
Kyra immediately stopped crying.
Zane looked offended. “I stayed awake for this?”
The doctor pointed toward him.
“Hallway duty.”
For the first time all night, everyone relaxed.
Everyone except me.
I was still trying to understand how the entire estate had nearly launched into full emergency mode over a false alarm. The nurses looked amused, which I found deeply disrespectful.
Amorah looked even more amused. The worst part was that she wasn’t trying to hide it.
“You thought the baby was coming.
I narrowed my eyes. “You did too.”
“Not like that.”
The traitor sitting beside me actually laughed.
The doctor continued explaining things while checking several final readings. According to him, the pain changes that were completely normal at this stage of pregnancy. Apparently, the baby was simply preparing for eventual delivery.

That explanation should have reassured me.
Instead, it created a completely different problem.
“Eventually?” I asked.
The doctor nodded. “Very eventually?”
The doctor shook his head. “Not necessarily.”
That got everyone’s attention. He looked directly at both of us.

The baby could realistically arrive at any time now.”

The room became quiet again. This time for a completely different reason. Suddenly the reality felt much closer. Months of preparation were turning into weeks.
Weeks might be turning into days.
I glanced toward Amorah.
Her hand rested against her stomach, and for a moment saw the same realization crossing her face. The future we had been preparing for was no longer distant.
It was almost here. The twins reacted exactly as expected. Kyra immediately started planning.
Zane immediately started making lists. Neither of them listened to a single instruction about remaining calm.
By sunrise, they had somehow convinced themselves they were part of the official baby preparation committee. Several unfortunate staff members were recruited into their efforts before breakfast even began.
The rest of the day carried” “ge feeling of relief.
Nobody had slept properly. Nobody wanted to admit how frightened they had been. And everyone kept checking on Amorah every five minutes.
Especially me.
At one point, Amorah caught me watching her while she sat in the garden reading.
“What?”
I looked away. “Nothing.”
“You’re staring.”
“I’m observing.”
She laughed.
“You’re worried.”
That wasn’t entirely wrong.

The idea of something happening to her had terrified me far more than I wanted to admit. The false alarm had reminded me how much there was still to lose.
Later that afternoon, we sat together on the back terrace while the twins argued nearby over nursery decorations. For once, there were no investigations, no betrayals, and no emergencies demanding our attention
There was only family. Amorah leaned comfortably against my shoulder.
“You were panicking.”
