The Rise Of The Betrayed Luna (Amorah and Holmes) novel Chapter 173

Amorah POV

I was sitting in the family room sorting tiny baby clothes when Conrad entered with two security wolves behind him. His expression alone told me the situation was already bad. The room immediately grew quieter.

What happened?I asked.

Conrad exhaled slowly. A package arrived

I frowned. From who?

His jaw tightened. Holmes.”

Kyra dropped the blanket she had been folding. Zane immediately sat up straighter.

Throw it away,Kyra declared.

Burn it first,Zane added.

One of the guards looked as though he agreed with both suggestions. Unfortunately, security protocol required them to inspect everything before making decisions. Conrad informed me that the package had already been searched three separate times.

No weapons?I asked.

No poison,Conrad replied.

No tracking devices?

Nothing dangerous.

That answer somehow made me more uncomfortable. Holmes had never been particularly dangerous with his hands. He was dangerous because he refused to let go.

Conrad insisted the package remain inside the security office until specialists completed one final inspection. An hour later, we gathered inside a secure conference room while the package was opened under observation.

The box itself looked ordinary. Inside sat a small velvet case.

Nobody spoke while one of the guards carefully opened it. The moment the lid lifted, confusion spread across the room.

A baby rattle?Kyra asked.

It was handcrafted silver. Tiny wolves were engraved around the handle, and the craftsmanship looked expensive enough to belong in a museum.

Then one of the investigators leaned closer.

There is an inscription.

Conrad’s expression darkened immediately. The investigator slowly read the engraving aloud.

For little Rowan. May you always be protected.

onrad went completely still beside me.

Nobody outside this house was supposed to know that name. We had spent weeks choosing it together and deliberately kept it private.

Even the twins only learned it recently.

Kyra looked horrified.

That’s creepy.

Very creepy,Zane agreed.

I couldn’t argue with either of them. The gift itself was harmless, but the message behind it wasn’t.

Holmes knew our baby’s name.

Conrad took the rattle from the table and stared at it for several seconds. His wolf scent sharpened with anger.

He has someone feeding him information.

The realization settled heavily over the room. Security around the estate had already been strengthened multiple times, yet information continued reaching Holmes.

Someone was still talking.

I folded my arms across my stomach. Instead of fear, irritation washed through me.

Months ago, Holmes could have ruined my entire day with something like this. Now all I felt was exhaustion.

He simply would not move on.

The baby kicked suddenly. The movement startled me enough that I pressed a hand against my stomach.

Conrad noticed immediately.

You okay?

Your son has opinions.

A faint smile appeared despite his anger. The expression vanished a second later when he looked back at the rattle.

He crossed a line.

He crossed several lines years ago.

The investigation began immediately. Every person with access to information about the baby’s name became a potential

suspect.

For the rest of the afternoon, security wolves reviewed messages, communication records, visitor logs, and internal reports. The entire estate became unusually tense.

Meanwhile, Kyra and Zane decided they had a solution.

It was not a good solution.

We’ve discussed Kyra announced during dinner.

Conrad looked suspicious immediately. That sentence never leads anywhere good.

Kyra ignored him. We’ve decided Anorah needs protection.

I have protection,I reminded her.

She pointed toward the guards stationed throughout the room.

No offense, but they missed the name leak.

Several guards looked offended anyway.

Zane nodded seriously. We’re creating our own security team.”

I nearly laughed.

Your own security team?

Official security team,Kyra corrected.

She produced a notebook from somewhere under the table. Neither Conrad nor I knew how she kept finding notebooks.

We’ve already started.

Conrad rubbed his forehead.

I’m afraid to ask.

Kyra opened the notebook dramatically.

Rule number one. Amorah may not walk anywhere alone.”

Rule number two,Zane continued, every suspicious person gets questioned.

Rule number three,Kyra said, dessert is mandatory.”

Zane blinked.

How is that security?

Good morale is important.”

Even Conrad couldn’t hide his amusement anymore. The tension that had followed us all day eased slightly.

For the next two days, the twins took their selfappointed duties very seriously. If I walked to the kitchen, they followed me.

If I went to the garden, they followed me. If I wanted five minutes alone, they somehow appeared anyway.

By the third day, even Conrad was being monitored. Kyra narrowed her eyes at him during breakfast.

Where were you yesterday afternoon?

Conrad nearly choked on his coffee. Excuse me?

We’re Unducting routine investigations.

I was in a meeting.”

Zane made a note inside the notebook.

Alibi confirmed.”

The absurdity kept all of us laughing, but the real investigation continued in the background. Security wolves worked around the clock trying to identify the source of the leak

Late on the third evening. I was resting in the family room while Conrad reviewed reports nearby. The baby had become increasingly active, making comfortable positions almost impossible to find.

Conrad looked up from his tablet. You should be sleeping.

I was.
