I woke up before sunrise because was too excited to sleep, and the moment I opened my eyes, I remembered we were finally getting closer to starting school.

For weeks everyone had been talking about applications, interviews, academy tours, and schedules, and now it suddenly felt

real.

The estate was quieter than usual when I slipped out of bed, but I could already smell breakfast coming from downstairs. I got dressed quickly and hurried into the hallway before anyone could tell me to slow down.

Zane was already awake when I found him sitting in the lounge scrolling through his tablet, and he looked annoyingly calm. I immediately started talking about classes, clubs, sports teams, and school events while he pretended none of it interested

him.

“You’ve talked about school every day this week,” he said.

“Because it’s important,” I replied. “Also because you’re secretly excited and refuse to admit it.”

He rolled his eyes so dramatically that I almost laughed, but I noticed he never actually denied it. That alone told me everything I needed to know.

By the time we reached the dining room, Amorah was feeding the baby while Conrad hovered nearby like the world’s most overprotective father. The baby seemed perfectly happy, which was a relief after everyone spent yesterday worrying about the strange burst of wolf energy.

The healer had assured everyone that the baby was healthy, though unusually strong, and the entire family seemed able to breathe again. Even Conrad looked slightly more relaxed, although only slightly.

“You two are staring,” Amorah said.

“We’re checking on the baby,” I answered.

“No, you’re not,” Zane said. “You’re trying to see if she can shoot wolf magic again.”

Amorah laughed while I gasped in fake outrage, and the baby made a small sound that almost sounded like agreement. That immediately started another argument between me and Zane about whether newborns could take sides.

The rest of the morning passed quickly because we were preparing for an academy orientation event, and I could barely sit still. Every few minutes I found another question to ask about classes, uniforms, lunch periods, or student activities.

Surprisingly, Lyra ended up helping me the most. She sat with me while I sorted through clothing options and listened patiently while I changed my mind at least six times.

“You know,” she said, “most students spend their first orientation worrying whether they’ll make friends.”

“I’ll make friends,” I replied confidently.

She smiled. “I believe you.”

The answer made me feel strangely good because it sounded sincere instead of flattering. Over the past few weeks, Lyra had quietly become part of our daily lives without pushing herself into anything, and even I could see she was trying hard.

When we finally arrived at the academy, I almost forgot how nervous I was because the campus was incredible.

Modern buildings stood beside training fields designed specifically for young wolves, and students filled the grounds with energy that made everything feel alive.

The orientation groups were divided by age, which meant Zane and I spent part of the day together and part of it apart. Neither of us admitted it, but we kept checking to make sure the other one was nearby.

One older student approached us near the training field and immediately started asking questions about where we were from. Zane stepped slightly closer to me during the conversation, and I found myself doing exactly the same thing.

The student seemed harmless, but it reminded me that everything here was unfamiliar. For all our arguing, Zane was still the person I trusted most after our family.

The academy staff gave presentations about classes, technology programs, territorial history, wolf control training, and leadership development. Most students looked bored during the academic sections, but I loved all of it.

During lunch, I spotted several groups already forming friendships. Instead of feeling intimidated, I found myself wanting to join them.

That surprised me because there had been a time when I preferred staying inside the estate where everything felt safe and predictable. Now I wanted something bigger.

Later in the afternoon, students were encouraged to explore activity booths and meet potential classmates. I dragged Zane through almost every section before he finally escaped to a technology demonstration.

I was examining a club display when someone stopped beside me. The girl looked about my age, and she had bright eyes and the kind of confidence that made conversations seem easy.

“Hi,” she said.

“Hi,” I answered.

For a moment neither of us spoke because we were both studying each other. Then she suddenly smiled.

“You look less terrified than everyone else here.”

I laughed immediately. “That’s because I spent all morning being terrified already.”

The joke broke whatever awkwardness existed between us, and the conversation started flowing naturally after that.

We talked about classes, teachers, clubs, and the ridiculous amount of paperwork students apparently had to complete.

She seemed funny, smart, and completely unafraid to say exactly what she was thinking. Within minutes I found myself hoping she would actually enroll here.

“By the way, I’m-” she started before introducing herself.

I gave her my name in return, and her expression immediately changed. It wasn’t fear or surprise exactly, but recognition.

“You know my name?” I asked.

“A little, she admitted.

I frowned because I was certain we had never met before. The longer she hesitated, the more curious I became.
