The image of Holmes standing inside that room stayed with me long after the screen went dark. Every photograph on those walls had been a reminder that he had spent months watching my family from a distance.

I reviewed the files again inside my office while security specialists examined copies of the flash drive. Bethany sat under guard elsewhere in the estate while we verified everything she had brought.

Most of the material was disturbing rather than immediately threatening. Holmes had collected photographs, public records, school brochures, shopping receipts, and notes about places we visited regularly.

The deeper I looked, the more irritated I became. He had not been planning an attack as much as he had been building an

obsession.

A soft knock sounded on my office door before it opened. Amorah stepped inside carrying the baby against her shoulder.

“You’ve been staring at that screen for two hours,” she said. “Tell me what you’re thinking.”

I stood and crossed the room before taking the baby from her carefully. Our daughter settled immediately against my chest, and some of the tension left my shoulders.

“I’m thinking Holmes has too much time on his hands,” I replied. “Most of this is routine information.”

Amorah sat down slowly and watched me. The past few weeks had helped her recover, but I still noticed every sign of fatigue.

“So he’s dangerous but not planning anything immediately?” she asked. “Is that what you’re saying?”

I nodded and adjusted the blanket around our daughter. The baby released a small sound before drifting back to sleep.

“That’s exactly what I’m saying,” I answered. “He’s obsessed, but I don’t see evidence of an immediate move.”

Amorah studied me for a moment before smiling slightly. She knew me well enough to recognize when I was choosing my words carefully.

“Then stop carrying it alone,” she said. “The twins deserve honesty too.”

An hour later, we gathered everyone in the family room. Kyra and Zane arrived together, while Lyra quietly joined us after helping organize supplies for the baby.

Kyra immediately noticed the serious atmosphere. Zane noticed it too, though he tried harder not to show it.

“Are we in trouble?” Kyra asked. “Because Zane definitely looks guilty about something.”

“I do not,” Zane argued. “You always say that.”

The exchange earned a laugh from Amorah. Even Lyra smiled from her seat near the window.

“No one is in trouble,” I said. “We just need to talk.”

That got their attention immediately. The twins settled onto the couch while Amorah sat beside them with the baby sleeping peacefully in her arms.

I explained the situation without sharing every disturbing detail from the flash drive. The goal was honesty, not fear.

Holines has been-paying attention to our family for a while,” I told them. “That means everyone needs to be careful online and at school.”

Kyra frowned and folded her arms./Zane leaned forward slightly, listening more closely than he pretended.

“You mean passwords and stuff? Kyra asked. “We already know that.”

“You know some of it,” Amorah replied. “Now you’re old enough to understand more.”

The conversation lasted nearly an hour. We discussed school safety, social media, location sharing, strangers asking questions, and why security wolves sometimes seemed overly cautious.

To my surprise, neither twin complained. They appreciated being included in the discussion instead of having decisions made for them.

“I like knowing the reason behind the rules,” Zane admitted. “It makes more sense that way.”

Kyra immediately pointed at him. Her expression became far too pleased for someone proving a simple point.

“See?” she announced. “You care.”

Zane groaned dramatically and covered his face. The baby woke briefly at the noise before settling again when Amorah rubbed her back.

After the meeting ended, school preparations took over the rest of the afternoon. Uniforms, schedules, notebooks, and academy requirements covered nearly every available surface in the house.

Kyra treated the entire process like a major celebration. She inspected every item at least three times and somehow still found reasons to be excited.

Zane claimed the whole thing was unnecessary. Ten minutes later, I caught him reading the academy handbook when he thought nobody was watching.

Lyra spent most of the afternoon helping them organize supplies. She never pushed herself into conversations and never tried forcing affection from anyone.

The difference in her behavior remained noticeable. Day after day, she simply showed up and helped.

I found Amorah watching Lyra and the twins from across the room. There was still caution in her eyes, but there was less suspicion than before.

“You’re thinking,” I said as I joined her. “I can tell.”

Amorah leaned against me lightly and watched Kyra explain color-coded folders to a completely uninterested Zane. The sight somehow made both of us smile.

“I think she’s trying,” Amorah admitted. “I haven’t caught her doing anything except being helpful.”

I wrapped an arm around her shoulders carefully. The baby monitor rested on the table beside us, broadcasting soft sounds from the nursery.

“That’s because she is trying,” I said. “The rest is up to you.”

The evening brought something we had not enjoyed in a long time. A normal family dinner filled the dining room with conversation instead of crisis.

Kyra described plans for her first week at the academy. Zane interrupted frequently to correct details that did not actually
