Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Amorah’s POV

Pain woke me before memory did.

It started as a dull ache deep inside my body, spreading slowly through my limbs until every breath felt heavy.

For a moment I lay still, staring at the ceiling above me.

White.

Spotlessly clean.

The smell reached me nextsharp herbs, antiseptic oils, and the faint metallic scent of blood.

The healer’s wing.

My heart jolted violently.

My hand flew to my stomach.

Flat.

Empty.

Cold dread crept through my veins as fragments of the night returned all at once.

The corridor.

Bethany’s voice.

Holmes.

Their laughter.

The twins.

The stairs.

Wake gently, Luna

I turned my head.

The healer stood beside the bed, her expression tight with pity.

That look alone told me everything.

Still. I forced the question out.

My baby?

The healer hesitated.

Then she lowered her eyes.

Chapter 2

I’m sorry, Luna Amorah.”

The words were soft, but they shattered something inside me.

The fall caused severe trauma, she continued carefully. We tried to stabilize the pregnancy, but the child could not

survive.”

For a second I heard nothing.

No sound.

No heartbeat.

No world.

Only silence.

Then my chest tightened so violently I had to grip the sheets just breathe.

Five years.

Five years of humiliation.

Five years of waiting.

And the moment

The M

Goddess finally answered me

It was taken away.

A broken laugh escaped my lips.

How efficient,I whispered hoarsely.

The healer frowned. Luna

I’m fine.”

I pushed myself upright.

Pain immediately shot through my abdomen, but I ignored it and swung my legs over the edge of the bed.

You should rest,she insisted.

My child is dead,I said calmly. What exactly am I resting for?

She fell silent.

The room felt suffocating.

Every breath carried the bitter smell of herbs meant to heal a body that no longer cared about healing.

I stood slowly.

My knees trembled but I steadied myself against the bed frame.

The healer reached for me, You’re still bleeding internally

Chapter 2

Amorah, how can you accuse your own sister of something like that?she whispered.

Her voice trembled perfectly.

Anyone watching would believe her.

You must have misunderstood, she continued softly. Holmes only came to check on the twins. You know how attached they are to him. He is the father figure they know

Right on cue, Holmes placed his hand on Zane’s shoulder.

The boy looked up at him with obvious affection.

My stomach twisted again.

You’re disgusting.I said quietly.

Holmes rolled his eyes.

You’re grieving,” he said flatly. And grief makes people irrational.

I heard you talk about the suppressants,” I shot back.

That made Bethany go still.

But Holmes recovered instantly.

You mean the fertility tonics the healers prescribed?he replied calmly.

You’re twisting your own memories now.

The sheer audacity left me speechless.

You’re lying,I whispered.

Bethany stepped forward gently.

Amorah,” she said softly. You’re hurting yourself. Losing a child is devastating. But accusing your husband and sister like this

Her hand reached for my arm.

I slapped it away.

Don’t touch me.”

Kyra whimpered softly.

Holmes immediately stepped in front of the twins..

See?he muttered coldly. You’re frightening the children now

Something inside me cracked.

For years I had bent over backwards to protect this family.

I had defended Holmes during council meetings.

I had helped Bethany rebuild her life after her husband’s death.

And now they stood here pretending I was insane

Tell them the truth.I demanded

Holmes’s eyes hardened

There is no truth except the one you’re inventing

My hands curled into fists.

Ther swear it.I said.

Swear before the Moon Goddess that you’ve never touched her.

For a moment, the hallway fell silent.

Bethany’s gaze flickered nervously toward Holmes.

Holmes simply scoffed,

I don’t answer to hysterical accusations

My last thread of hope snapped.

I stepped forward and raised my hand.
