Chapter 20
AMORAH
The moment Holmes walked away, I knew it was not over. The council had not dismissed the matter, and neither had he. If anything, the shift in the room had made things worse for him, and I understood what that meant.
I remained where I was for a few seconds, letting the elders continue their quiet discussions while I steadied my thoughts. I could not afford to react without thinking anymore, not when everything was beginning to turn in my favor
“Luna Amorah.”
I turned when one of the senior elders called my name. His gaze rested on me with quiet weight, and I knew he had been watching everything closely.
“You’ve made serious claims tonight,” he said.
“I know.” I replied.
“And you intend to prove them?”
“Yes.
He studied me for a moment before nodding once. “Then be careful. Matters like this rarely end without consequence.”
“I understand.”
He said nothing else after that. He simply inclined his head and walked away, leaving me alone with the weight of his words.
I turned toward the exit shortly after. The hall had begun to thin out, but the tension had not faded.
I ignored them.
I had just stepped into the corridor when my wolf stirred suddenly. It was not loud, but it was sharp enough to make me pause.
“Stop.”
The voice came from behind me, and I did not need to turn to know who it was.
I kept walking.
His footsteps followed, closing the distance quickly. “I said stop.”
His hand caught my arm before I could take another step. The grip was firm, controlled, but it made my skin crawl immediately.
“Let go,” I said.
“You’re not walking away from me like that,” he replied.
I turned to face him slowly. The calm expression he wore in the hall was gone now, replaced with something colder.
“What do you want?” I asked.
His grip tightened slightly. “What are you trying to do?”
I already told you.”

Chapter 20
“You’re lying,” he said flatly.
“No.” I replied. “You are.”
His jaw tightened at that, and I saw the shift in him. “You’re pushing this too far.”
“Am I?” I asked.
“You’re dragging the council into something that should be handled inside the pack.”
“That would only work if you had nothing to hide.”
His eyes darkened at my words. “You think you’re safe because you spoke in front of them?”
“I think you’re worried because I did.”
For a moment, neither of us spoke. Then his grip tightened again, enough to make me feel it clearly.
“You need to stop,” he said.
“Or what?” I asked.
This time, he did not hesitate. “Or I will make sure you regret it.”
His voice was calm, but the meaning was not. My wolf stirred beneath my skin, not in fear, but in warning.
“I already regret staying.” I said.
That was when his control slipped.
He stepped closer, forcing me back until my shoulder hit the wall behind me. His body blocked any space I had to move, and the proximity made my stomach turn.
“You don’t get to turn this around on me,” he said.
My breathing slowed, but I did not look away from him. “You lost that right a long time ago.”
His hand moved from my arm to the wall beside my head, trapping me in place. “I gave you everything,” he said.
“You took everything,” I replied.
His expression hardened further. “You think anyone will believe you? You have no proof.”
“Not yet,” I said.
“That’s the problem,” he replied.
For a brief moment, I saw something shift in his eyes. It was not anger this time. It was something more controlled.
“What are you planning?” I asked.
He did not answer me. Instead, he leaned closer, his voice dropping.
“You should have stayed quiet.”
Before I could respond, footsteps approached from down the corridor. Holmes stepped back immediately, releasing me as if nothing had happened. His expression returned to calm within seconds.

Chapter 20
And saw Conrad.
He walked toward us without hesitation, his presence filling the space in a way that made the air feel different. His gaze moved from Holmes to me, then back again.
“What’s going on here?” he asked.
Holmes straightened. “Nothing that concerns you.”
Conrad stopped a few steps away, his expression unreadable. “She doesn’t look like it’s nothing.”
“I was handling a private matter,” Holmes said.
Conrad’s eyes moved to me again. “Did you need help?”
Holmes spoke before I could answer. “She’s fine.”
“I didn’t ask you.” Conrad said calmly.
Silence followed.
I stepped away from the wall fully this time, creating space between me and Holmes. “I’m fine,” I said.
Conrad held my gaze for a moment before nodding once. “Then come with me.”
Holmes’s expression darkened. “She’s not going anywhere with you.”
Conrad looked at him without any change in expression. “That’s not your decision”
“It is,” Holmes said. “She is my mate
The word felt wrong now.
Conrad did not react immediately. Then he spoke, his tone still calm. “Not for long.”
The tension in the corridor tightened.
Holmes stepped forward. “You’re crossing a line.”
Conrad did not move. “You lost the right to draw lines when you failed to control your own house.”
The words landed cleanly, and for the first time, I saw something in Holmes’s eyes shift. It was brief, but it was there.
He stepped back.
This isn’t over,” he said.
“It never was,” I replied.
He looked at me one last time before turning and walking away.
The moment he was gone, the tension eased slightly. I exhaled slowly, realizing how tight my chest had been.
Conrad stepped closer. “You shouldn’t be alone right now.”
“I’m not alone,” I said.
His gaze held mine for a moment before he nodded. “Come with me.”

Chapter 20
I hesitated briefly, then followed him.
We left the council grounds together, and his car was already waiting. He opened the door for me without speaking, and I got in.
The drive was quiet.
I watched the streets pass by, my thoughts moving steadily as I tried to make sense of everything, Holmes’s reaction, the council’s shift, and the contract waiting for my decision all pressed on me at once.
After some time, the car slowed.
When we stopped, I looked up at the building in front of us. It was private, guarded, and clearly meant for wolves of status.
“This place…” I said.
“Only for those with power,” Conrad replied.
