Chapter 210 The Face Mohind The Door
Chapter 210: The Face Behind The Door
The image of someone standing inside Cassian’s nursery refused to leave my mind Every time I looked at the security footage, the same frustration returned.
The person had entered quietly. The person had left quietly. Nothing appeared damaged. Nothing appeared stolen.
That should have reassured me. Instead, it made the situation worse.
I stood inside the security office reviewing footage again while members of my team searched for answers. Nobody spoke much because everyone understood how serious the situation had become.
“We’ve checked three times.”
The head of security sounded tired. I understood exactly how he felt.
“Check again.”
He nodded without complaint. Nobody questioned that order.
The problem was simple. Every clue pointed toward someone familiar with the estate.
An outsider would have triggered alarms. An outsider would have drawn attention.
This person moved comfortably through the property. That fact bothered me more than anything else.
I returned home shortly afterward. The estate looked completely normal from the outside.
Children laughed in the distance. Staff moved through their daily routines.
The normalcy felt almost offensive.
Amorah sat in the living room holding Cassian when I entered. Little Fang immediately noticed me before ! spoke.
His head turned toward the doorway.
Then he smiled.
“He’s doing it again.”
Amorah sounded amused despite everything happening around us. Cassian reached toward me immediately.
I took him carefully. His attention remained fixed on my face.
“At least someone is happy to see me.”
Amorah laughed softly.
“He always is.”
Cassian grabbed my finger. The simple gesture eased some of the tension I had carried all day.
Only some.
“Any progress?”
Amorah already knew what I had been working on. Her expression became more serious.
“Not yet.”
She sighed quietly.
I hated disappointing her. Unfortunately, I hated uncertainty even more.
The nursery incident remained unresolved. That fact weighed on both of us.
Before either of us could continue the conversation, Kyra rushed into the room. She looked irritated.
“I’m quitting.”
I immediately knew she was exaggerating. Kyra announced dramatic decisions almost daily.

“Competition training?”
“Yes”
“No, you’re not.”
She looked disappointed that neither of us believed her.
“It was terrible”
“What happened?”
Kyra dropped onto the couch dramatically. Cassian seemed fascinated by the performance.
“Everything.”
Amorah raised an eyebrow. “Specifics would help.”
Kyra groaned loudly.
The explanation that followed lasted several minutes. By the end, I was fairly certain she planned to continue competing.
She simply wanted permission to complain first.
Zane arrived shortly afterward. Unlike his sister, he tried pretending everything was fine.
Unfortunately, he looked exhausted.
“How was training?”
“Fine.”
The answer came too quickly. Kyra immediately laughed.
“That means terrible.”
Zane glared at her. “Nobody asked you.”
“You make it obvious.”
The argument started instantly. Cassian watched both of them carefully.
For some reason, sibling arguments seemed to entertain him.
The twins continued bickering until Amorah finally interrupted. Neither looked particularly sorry.
Some things never changed.
Later that evening, I returned to reviewing information from the investigation. The more I studied the evidence, the more frustrated I became.
Every path eventually reached the same conclusion.
Whoever entered the nursery knew exactly what they were doing.
That realization stayed with me throughout dinner. It stayed with me afterward as well.
Unfortunately, Bethany noticed.
“You look miserable.”
I glanced toward her. She remained seated at the far end of the room.
Nobody treated her like family. Nobody pretended otherwise.
Bethany stayed under supervision because she possessed useful information connected to Holmes. That arrangement benefited everyone except Bethany.
“I’ve had better days.”
She nodded slowly.
Then Bethany surprised me.
“The nursery situation?”
Chapter 210: The Face Behind The Door
I looked toward her carefully. “What about it?”
She hesitated before answering. “People keep assuming outside threats”
The statement immediately caught my attention. Bethany rarely offered opinions unless she believed they mattered.
“Go on.”
She folded her arms.
“Holmes used to say something.”
I disliked hearing Holmes mentioned. Unfortunately, sometimes useful information came attached to unpleasant memories.
“What did he say?”
Bethany looked away briefly. “He said people spend too much time watching doors.”
The room became quiet.
“And?”
“They forget to watch people already inside.”
The statement landed harder than I expected. Not because it was profound.
Because it fit.
Bethany noticed my reaction immediately.
“I’m not defending him.”
“I know.”
The clarification mattered. Nobody in this house trusted Holmes.
Nobody ever would.
Even Bethany sounded tired whenever his name surfaced. That alone said plenty.
Afterward, I shared the conversation with security. Several team members began reviewing existing evidence from a different perspective.
The results were frustrating.
Bethany had been right.
Several irregularities pointed toward someone familiar with the estate. None provided definitive answers.
But the pattern remained impossible to ignore.
Meanwhile, life continued moving forward around us. School schedules, training sessions, appointments, and family obligations refused to pause.
Sometimes that felt comforting. Other times it felt absurd.
The following afternoon, Amorah joined me during another review session. She carried two cups of coffee.
“You need this.”
I accepted the drink immediately. “I love you.”
She laughed softly.
“You say that every time I bring coffee.”
“Because I mean it every time.”
The smile that followed made the entire day slightly better.
For several minutes, we reviewed footage together. Neither of us enjoyed what we were seeing.
Every answer produced new questions.
“Maybe we’re looking too hard.”

Amorah studied the screen thoughtfully.
