Chapter 211: The Last Reason We expected

Conrad Pov

The silence that followed the security team’s revelation felt tense than anything I had experienced all week. 1 stared at the report in front of me while trying to convince myself I had heard the wrong name

Unfortunately, I had not. The person who entered Cassian’s nursery was not a criminal

The person was not a stranger. The individual worked at the academy.

More importantly, the individual interacted with Kyra and Zane regularly. Amorah looked just as stunned as ! felt

Her expression hardened almost immediately afterward.

“Bring them in.*

Nobody argued with her. Less than an hour later, the academy employee sat across from me inside a security interview room.

The woman looked nervous enough to shake.

“I never meant any harm.”

I folded my arms across my chest.

“Then explain why you entered my son’s nursery.”

Her eyes dropped immediately. The answer did not come quickly.

That alone irritated me.

“I was curious.”

The room became quiet. I honestly thought I had misheard her. The explanation sounded too ridiculous to be real.

“Curious?”

She nodded weakly.

“People talk.”

That statement only made things worse.

“What people?”

She swallowed visibly. The admission triggered immediate reactions from everyone present.

Nobody looked pleased.

“Academy staff.”

“What exactly are they saying?”

Her hesitation returned. The answer arrived slowly.

“They talk about Cassian.”

My jaw tightened immediately. The fact that strangers discussed my son already annoyed me.

The fact that those discussions reached academy employees annoyed me even more.

“What about him?”

She looked embarrassed.

“They say he’s different.”

Nobody responded. The woman rushed to continue.

“They say he shifted too early.”

Her voice became quieter.

“They say he senses things other wolves can’t”

I already knew rumors existed. Hearing them repeated inside an interrogation room created an entirely different feeling.

“So you decided breaking into his nursery was reasonable?”

“No.”

The answer came instantly

“No, I know it wasn’t.”

I believed that part. The woman looked genuinely ashamed. Unfortunately, shame did not undo what she had done.

“I only wanted to see him.”

The explanation sounded pathetic. I stood from my chair slowly.

“You entered my home.”

Her face turned pale.

“You entered my son’s room.”

Nobody needed to explain why that mattered. Every parent in the room understood.

The woman lowered her head.

“I’m sorry.”

The apology accomplished nothing. The interview continued for another hour.

By the end, one thing became painfully clear. The woman had acted recklessly. She had not acted alone.

That discovery changed everything.

Back at the estate, I found Amorah sitting in the living room with Cassian asleep against her shoulder. The sight usually helped me relax.

This time, it only reminded me why I was angry.

“What did she say?”

Amorah already knew the broad details. She wanted specifics.

“Curiosity.”

Her expression darkened immediately.

“That’s supposed to make me feel better?”

“No.”

It definitely did not. Amorah shook her head slowly.

People crossing boundaries around our family had become a recurring problem. Neither of us liked the trend.

Cassian shifted slightly in his sleep. His tiny hand remained wrapped around Amorah’s shirt.

At least he seemed unconcerned.

The twins reacted differently. Kyra stormed into my office later that afternoon without knocking.

That usually meant she was upset.

“I trusted her.”

The anger in her voice surprised me. I motioned toward a chair.

Kyra ignored it.

“She helped organize activities.”

Her frustration kept growing.

“She smiled at us every day”

I understood the feeling. Betrayal rarely became easier simply because the offense seemed small.

“People make stupid decisions.”

Kyra folded her arms.

“That’s not an excuse.”

“No.”

She had a point. Zane’s reaction arrived later that evening. Unlike his sister, he looked more irritated than hurt.

“This is ridiculous.”

I glanced up from my paperwork.

“What is?”

“Everyone treats us like we’re some kind of attraction.”

The complaint sounded genuine. Zane rarely discussed his feelings directly.

When he did, I paid attention.

“We’re just trying to go to school.”

I nodded.

“I know.”

His frustration remained obvious.

“They keep acting like our family is weird.”

I almost laughed. Our family was absolutely weird.

Unfortunately, that observation would not help him. Instead, I let him continue talking.

Sometimes children needed that more than advice.

The following day, security completed another review of the evidence. What they found immediately drew my attention.

Several pieces of information used by the academy employee should never have been available. Family schedules. Security rotations. Nursery routines. Somebody had provided those details.
