Chapter 25
AMORAH
I moved quickly through the corridor, and I could feel Conrad right behind me. Neither of us spoke because there was no time to waste on words. My focus stayed ahead, fixed on the wing where the twins were kept.
“They won’t move them through the main hall,” Conrad said quietly.
“I know.” I replied. “There’s a service exit behind the west wing.”
He didn’t question how I knew. He only adjusted his pace to match mine as we turned sharply down another corridor.
My wolf stayed alert, her attention moving faster than
“Two guards ahead,” she said.
“I see them.”
my body.
The moment we turned the corner, the guards straightened, their expressions shifting when they recognized me. One of them stepped forward immediately, blocking the path.
“The Alpha gave strict orders,” he said. “No one is to pass.”
“I’m not asking.” I replied.
His stance didn’t change. “Luna-”
“I am still your Luna,” I cut in, “Move!”
He hesitated.
Only for a second.
But that second mattered.
Conrad stepped forward beside me, his presence expanding without effort. He didn’t raise his voice, but the shift in his wolf was enough.
“Step aside,” he said.
The guard’s wolf reacted first. I saw it in the tension of his shoulders and the way his eyes flickered. He stepped back before he fully realized he had done it.
We didn’t wait. I moved past him immediately, Conrad following without pause.
“They’re close,” I said.
“I can hear movement,” Conrad replied.
We reached the end of the corridor just as a door ahead opened.
Two guards stepped out first.
Behind them was Bethany. And just behind her, another guard carrying Kyra, while Zane walked beside him, holding his hand.
My chest tightened.

Chapter 25
“There they are,” my wolf said.
“I see them.”
Bethany stopped the moment she saw us.
Her expression shifted, not into panic, but into something more. She stepped slightly forward, placing herself between us and the children.
“You’re too late,” she said.
“I’m not here to talk.” I replied.
Holmes stepped out from behind her.
Of course he was here.
“You should have stayed where you were told,” he said.
“I don’t take orders from you anymore,” I replied.
Zane looked up at Holmes, confused, while Kyra rested against the guard’s shoulder, half asleep and unaware of what was happening.
I forced my focus back. I needed something.
Anything
A strand of hair.
A drop of blood.
Something that could be used.
“You’re not taking them,” I said.
Holmes’s gaze hardened. “I already am.”
Conrad stepped forward slightly. “You’re moving them in the middle of the night without council approval.”
“This has nothing to do with the council.” Holmes replied.
“It has everything to do with it,” Conrad said.
Bethany spoke before the tension could rise further. “This is a family matter.”
“No,” I said. “It stopped being that a long time ago.”
Her eyes flickered briefly, then steadied. “You’re not thinking clearly.”
“I’ve never been clearer,” I replied.
I took a step forward.
The guards reacted immediately. So did Holmes. His hand lifted slightly, signaling them to hold position.
“You’re not getting near them,” he said.
“I don’t need permission,” I replied.

Chapter 25
“You need authority,” he said.
“I have enough,” I answered,
.
I moved again, faster this time, auming for the space between the guards. For a second, I thought I had it. My fingers brushed against Kyra’s sleeve-
Then everything shifted. A hand caught my arm.
He pulled me back before I could reach her properly, forcing me to stop.
“That’s enough,” he said.
My heart pounded, frustration rising sharply.
“You’re afraid.” I said.
“I’m careful.” he replied.
“That’s not the same thing.”

Now she said.

I shifted my weight suddenly, twisting my arm sharply in a way that forced Holmes’s grip to loosen just enough. It wasn’t much, but it was enough for me to slip free.
