Chapter 26
Chapter 26
HOLMES
By morning, everywhere was finally calm. That was how it felt as I stood in my office within the Silvercrest estate, reviewing reports brought in at dawn.
The guards had confirmed that the twins were secure, relocated without interference, and placed under tighter protection than before. No one outside my command structure knew their exact location.
Amorah had failed. That was the truth of it. She had tried to reach them, tried to force something she could not prove, and in the end, she walked away with nothing. Whatever confidence she had gained in the council hall the previous night would not survive long without evidence to support it.
My wolf was calm and satisfied.
There was still the matter of the council, but I had already begun managing that. Information had been controlled, narratives adjusted, and those who mattered had been reminded where Silvercrest stood.
Amorah’s claims would weaken. They always did when faced with structure and authority.
A knock came at the door.
“Enter.”
My Beta stepped inside, his posture respectful but more rigid than usual.
“There’s been a call,” he said.
“What kind of call?”
“A meeting,” he replied. “All attending Alphas are required.”
That was expected.
The events from the previous night had drawn too much attention to be ignored. A formal gathering would allow the elders to address the situation without disorder.
“When?” I asked.
“In one hour.”
I nodded once. “Prepare everything.”
He hesitated slightly before speaking again. “There’s something else.”
I looked up.
“The elders will be present.”
That made me pause.
“All of them?” I asked.
“The senior council” he confirmed.
That was unusual.

Alpha meetings did not always require direct elder oversight, especially not at this level. Their presence meant the situation had escalated beyond simple dispute.
Still, it did not concern me. If anything, it worked in my favor. Elders valued order. They valued structure. And I had maintained both.
“Good.” I said. “Let them observe.”
My Beta nodded, though I could see the uncertainty in his expression before he turned and left.
Without proof, her words would collapse under pressure. And once they did, I would deal with the rest.
Bethany entered shortly after.
She closed the door behind her and moved toward me, her expression calm but watchful.
“They’ve called a meeting.” she said.
“I know.”
Her gaze lingered on me. “The elders will be there.”
“I heard.”
She studied me for a moment. “That changes things.”
“Not enough,” I replied.
She stepped closer. “Amorah won’t stop.”
“I don’t expect her to.”
“And Conrad?” she asked.
My expression hardened slightly at the mention of his name.
“He’s a complication,” I said.
“He’s more than that,” she replied quietly. “The other Alphas are watching him.”
“I noticed.”
There was a pause.
“She refused to leave with him,” Bethany added.
“That was her mistake,” I said.
“Or her strategy,” she countered.
I didn’t respond immediately. Because that thought had already crossed my mind. Amorah was not acting blindly.
She was choosing her position carefully. Which meant she still believed she had a path forward.
“She won’t find anything.” I said finally.
Bethany held my gaze. “She doesn’t need much.”
She needs proof,” I replied, “And she doesn’t have it”

Her expression remained straight. “Then make sure she never gets it.”
“I already have,” I said.
“Be careful today,” she said.
“I always am.”
She left without another word.
I finished preparing shortly after and made my way to the council hall. The atmosphere had already changed.
Guards stood in tighter formation, and the usual movement of attendants was tighter. When I entered, several Alphas were already present, speaking in low voices that stopped the moment I stepped into the room.
They were paying attention.
One by one, the others settled. Then the elders entered.
The room quieted immediately as they took their positions at the front.”
Then the senior elder raised his hand.
“This gathering has been called to address matters that concern more than one pack,” he said.
His gaze moved across the room, settling briefly on each Alpha before continuing.
“Accusations were made last night,” he added. “Some require time to investigate.”
Murmurs moved quietly through the room, but they were quickly silenced.
“However,” the elder continued, “another matter has been brought forward this morning.”
That drew my attention.
Another matter?
I hadn’t been informed of anything beyond what had already occurred.
The elder’s gaze shifted towards me.
My wolf stirred slightly.
“Speak,” he said.
An attendant stepped forward, holding a sealed document. He handed it to one of the elders, who broke the seal and read silently for a moment.
The room remained completely still.
Then the elder looked up.
“An anonymous allegation has been submitted,” he said.
Silence settled across the hall. Anonymous allegations were not taken lightly.
They were rarely accepted without cause. Which meant someone had provided enough to be heard.
The elder continued.

“The claim states that Alpha Holmes of Silvercrest has not remained faithful within his mate bond.”
A low murmur spread through the room.
I did not react. Not outwardly at least.
But my wolf was fully alert now.
“They are pushing.” he said.
“I see that,” I replied.
The elder’s voice did not change.
“The allegation further claims that there is a witness willing to testify
My gaze moved slowly across the hall, searching without appearing
Who?
Amorah?
No.
She would not hide behind anonymity.
Conrad? That was unlikely.
