I left the hall before he could say anything else. The guards in the hallway straightened as I passed, but I did not look at them. My focus stayed forward, even though my thoughts were not as steady.
My wolf moved under my skin, restless and sharp. “He crossed a line.”
“I know.” I replied.
I did not stop until I reached my room.
The door closed behind me with a quiet click, but the silence inside did not calm anything.
“He thinks it is already done,” my wolf said.
“He thinks I won’t fight him on it,” I replied.
I paced once across the room before stopping near the window. Everything about this place was controlled, structured, and built around him. That made it harder to ignore what he had done.
He had made a decision and expected me to accept it.
I exhaled slowly, forcing my thoughts to settle.
“I won’t.” I said quietly.
My wolf agreed. “Then you tell him.”
Before I could move, there was a knock on the door.
I went still for a moment, already knowing who it was. The timing alone made it clear. I did not answer immediately.
The knock came again.
“Amorah,” Conrad voice came from the other side.
I walked to the door and opened it without stepping back.
Conrad stood there, exactly as I expected, calm, unreadable, and certain. His presence filled the doorway before he even moved.
“You left,” he said.
“I had nothing else to say,” I replied.
He studied me for a moment before stepping inside. I did not stop him, but I did not move to make space either. The distance between us closed without permission.
“You had more to say,” he said.
“I said enough,” I replied.
He closed the door behind him, the sound quiet but final. The room felt smaller with him inside it, not because of the space, but because of his presence.
“You don’t agree,” he said.

“No,” I replied.
He nodded, as if that did not surprise him. “I expected that.”
That made my chest tighten slightly. “Then why do it anyway?”
“Because it needed to be done,” he said.
I shook my head. “That’s not how this works.”
“It is now.” he replied.
My wolf pushed forward sharply. “He is not backing down.”
“I can see that.” I replied.
I stepped closer, meeting him directly. “You don’t get to decide everything for me.”
His gaze held mine without hesitation. “You don’t get to slow this down.”
“That’s not your choice to make,” I said.
“It is when it affects me,” he replied.
The words landed harder than I expected.
I paused for a moment, not because I agreed, but because I understood what he meant. This was not just about me anymore. That was what he was trying to make clear.
“That still doesn’t give you the right,” I said.
“It gives me the reason,” he replied.
Silence followed that.
My wolf stayed alert, watching him carefully. There was no anger in him, but there was no hesitation either. That made it harder to push against him the way I wanted to.
“You announced something I didn’t agree to,” I said.
“You agreed to the outcome,” he replied.
“I agreed to a contract,” I said. “Not to being claimed in front of a room without warning.”
His
gaze
shifted slightly at that word.
“Claimed,” he repeated.
“That’s what it was,” I said.
He stepped closer, closing the space between us again. This time, I did not step back. My wolf stayed still, watching, waiting
“You are not being claimed without purpose,” he said.
“That doesn’t change what it is,” I replied.
“It changes everything.” he said.
I clenched my jaw slightly, holding his gaze. “Not to me.”

Chapter 37
For a moment, neither of us moved.
“You think this is about control,” he said.
“It is,” I replied.
“It is about timing,” he said.
“It feels the same.” I replied.
His expression changed slightly, not anger, but something more focused. He reached out then, his hand closing around my wrist again, firm enough to stop me from moving.
“You are still thinking like you have time,” he said.
I frowned slightly. “What does that mean?”
He held my gaze, not looking away. “It means you are already behind.”
My chest tightened.
“That doesn’t give you the right to force me,” I said.
“I am not forcing you,” he replied.
I looked at his hand on my wrist. “Then what is this?”
His grip did not loosen.
“This is me making sure you don’t walk away from what you chose,” he said.
I pulled slightly, testing his hold. He did not tighten it, but he did not let go either.
“I didn’t choose this,” I said.
“You chose me,” he replied.
I went still.
For a moment, I did not respond.
My wolf stirred quietly. “That is true.”
I exhaled slowly, forcing my thoughts back into place. “I chose to work with you.”
“And this is part of it,” he said.
“No.” I replied. “This is decision, not mine.”
His gaze did not shift.
your
“You still think you can separate the two,” he said.
“I know I can.” I replied.
He studied me for a moment longer, then finally released my wrist.
The absence of his grip felt just as strong as the contact.

Chapter 37
“You have a choice,” he said.
I watched him carefully. “Now you’re giving me one?”
“I always did,” he replied.
“That’s not how it felt.” I said.
“That’s because you’re looking at the wrong part,” he said.
