The Rise Of The Betrayed Luna (Amorah and Holmes) novel Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Amorah’s POV

The first night they locked me in my chambers, my wolf refused to sleep.

She paced restlessly beneath my skin, a wounded creature snarling at the invisible cage around us.

By the second night, the pacing stopped.

And the whispers began.

They slipped through the door like smoke. Through the stone walls. Through the servants who believed the Luna could no longer hear them.

She lost the child.”

They say her wolf is unstable now.

I heard she demanded mate severance because she can’t bear

As if the Alpha would keep a Luna like that.

I sat on the edge of the bed, hands folded tightly in my lap, listening.

Each word scraped against my bones.

Bethany didn’t even bother hiding her campaign.

She moved through the pack house like a grieving saint, telling everyone how worried she was about me. How heartbroken she felt watching her sister lose her child and her sanity at the same time.

Poor Bethany.

Poor Holmes.

The Alpha forced to endure a Luna who had become unstable.

By the afternoon of the second day, the story had taken shape.

Amorah the Barren.

Amorah the Hysterical.

Amorah the Luna who had demanded mate severance because she could no longer give her Alpha an heir.

I laughed when I heard that part.

Quietly.

It sounded so believable.

That was the worst part.

The contempt came next.

stopped meeting my eyes when they delivered food.

The guards outside my door stopped calling me Luna.

My wolf felt it too.

She had always been faint, barely awakened, but now she curled into herself like something wounded.

They thought we were weak.

Broken.

Good

Let them believe that

Because weakness was invisible.

And invisible things survived.

On the second night, someone knocked.

*Luna

Luna Amorah.

The voice was old.

Familiar.

Before I could answer, the door opened and Elder Ronan stepped inside.

He had served on my father’s council long before I became Luna.

Seeing him now made something twist painfully inside my chest.

He sat without invitation.

I came because I care about you,he said calmly.

I said nothing

You’ve suffered a tragedy,” he continued. But demanding mate severance from your Alphado you understand what that looks like to the pack?

My fingers tightened.

You should value your bond,he went on. Alpha Holmes has been patient with you.

Patient

The word tasted like poison.

Infertility is difficult for any Alpha to accept,he added. Yet he stood by you for five years.

I slowly raised my head.

Tolerated me.” I said quietly.

Elder Ronan frowned.

That isn’t what I meant.

It’s exactly what you meant.

His expression hardened slightly.

You must think of the pack. Leadership requires stability. Emotional outbursts weaken the Alpha’s authority.

I almost laughed.

For years I had been the one holding Silvercrest together while Holmes grew bored of council meetings and left halfway through

But none of that mattered now.

Because a Luna’s worth could be measured in only one way.

Heirs

When Elder Ronan left, the room fell silent again.

Then the laughter came.

Broken

Ugly.

I thought of everything I had done for this pack.

Settling border disputes.

Negotiating with rival territories.

Managing winter supplies when the northern caravans failed.

Smiling politely when visiting Lunas asked if I had tried a different fertility tonic.

Letting healers examine my body like I was breeding stock.

And this was my reward.

Isolation.

Slander.

Betrayal.

My wolf stirred faintly beneath my ribs.

Not in pain, but In anger.

Before dawn on the third day, something inside me changed.

So,she said softly.

Planning to run?

My heart hammered.

But my face remained calm.

Don’t be foolish, Amorah,” she continued, walking slowly toward me.

A mate severance ritual isn’t something you can demand and disappear over.

She tilted her head.

The council must approve it. Evidence must be presented.

She smiled faintly.

Running would only make you look guilty.

You’re not escaping this marriage, she added quietly.

And you’re not escaping Holmes.

I studied her carefully.
