The Rise Of The Betrayed Luna (Amorah and Holmes) novel Chapter 49

AMORAH

The moment the doors sealed, the entire room shifted. The sound faded quickly, but its impact stayed behind, settling into the walls and pressing into every corner of the chamber.

What had been a fractured gathering only moments ago tightened into something enclosed, something no one inside could walk away from anymore.

I didn’t move right away.

My attention stayed on Bethany.

She didn’t react the way I expected. There was no pause, no flicker of doubt, nothing to suggest hesitation. That alone told me everything I needed to knowthis hadn’t been a sudden choice.

This had always been part of her plan.

Holmes turned sharply toward the doors, his expression hardening.

What did you do,he demanded.

Bethany didn’t look at him.

Her gaze stayed forward, her posture steady, unchanged.

I secured the process,she replied.

Holmes stepped toward her, tension clear in the movement.

This was not the agreement.

That was enough.

I shifted my attention to him, and the realization settled in without resistance,

He hadn’t known.

He was involved, but not in control of everything.

You didn’t plan this,I said.

His focus snapped to me immediately.

This was not meant to be handled like this,he answered.

But it is,I said.

He had nothing to counter that with.

Because he couldn’t.

Bethany turned slightly then, acknowledging him at last.

This was always how it needed to be handled, she said. You were too concerned with maintaining appearances.

Holmes’s jaw ughtened, irritation cutting through his composure,

And you think this won’t have consequences?

It will.” she said evenly. But they’ll be the right ones.”

The room stayed still around them. No one moved toward the doors again.

No one spoke because at that point, everyone understood what had changed.

No one was leaving until this ended. Conrad stepped forward then.

He didn’t raise his voice, and he didn’t push for space, but the shift in the room was immediate. The tension didn’t disappear, it adjusted.

That was a mistake,he said.

Bethany met his gaze, unbothered.

Only if this fails.

It already has,” he replied.

She shook her head, just once.

No. It was interrupted.”

That interruption was enough.

Not yet.

Their exchange held the room in place.

No one moved between them or interrupted.

And that gave me the opening I needed.

I moved.

Slowly, without drawing attention, without rushing. I stepped past the broken formation, closing the distance toward the twins with measured steps.

No one stopped me. Because all of them were watching Conrad.

I reached the twins within seconds.

Zane stood still, but not in the same rigid way as before. Kyra’s posture was uncertain, her attention shifting between me and everything happening around her.

You’re alright,I said quietly.

Kyra looked at me, unsettled.

I don’t understand what’s happening.

That’s because no one explained it properly.” I said.

Zane glanced toward Bethany, then back at me.

She said this would show everything.

And you believe that?

He hesitated.

That hesitation was enough.

Behind me, the tension between Conrad and Bethany held, but I felt the shift in the room again. The connection between Conrad and me tightenednot pulling, but aligning with the pressure building around us.

It steadied me.

You don’t have to stay in position,I said.

Kyra took a small step toward me. That movement didn’t go unnoticed. Bethany’s attention shifted immediately.

Step back,she said.

Kyra didn’t move.

Bethany’s voice rose slightly the second time.

This rite is not just about confirmation. It is about binding.

I turned just enough to face her while staying close to the twins.

Binding what?

Their place, she replied. Their lineage. Their future.

That’s not how this works.

It is how it will work.”

The elders exchanged glances. One stepped forward, voice firm.

You cannot enforce a binding without full council authority.

Bethany didn’t acknowledge him.

I don’t need full council authority if the outcome is already clear.

That is not your decision to make, another elder added.

It becomes my decision when no one else acts.

That’s not binding.I said. That’s forcing an outcome.”

It is securing it.

I felt the change before I saw it. The energy in the room began to rise again.

It started low, subtle, then built steadily, drawing from the same structure that had been disrupted earlier. The broken formation respondednot fully restoring, but aligning just enough to support what she was doing.

She’s restarting it.I said.

Yes.Conrad answered from behind me.

The tension climbed.

The air grew heaviernot from pressure alone, but from the uneven way the energy gathered at the center. It didn’t flow cleanly, and that made it unstable.

Stop this,” one of the elders said.

Bethany didn’t respond.

Her focus stayed locked on the twins.
