Xavier groggily pulled the door open. Seeing Zane standing there in the middle of the night, he groaned. "This had better be a matter of life and death."
"It's not exactly an emergency, but I couldn't wait until tomorrow," Zane said.
Xavier couldn't be bothered with him and tried to shut the door.
"I'm begging you, okay?" Zane forced his way inside.
Defeated, Xavier simply collapsed backward onto his bed.
This wasn't a hotel, so Zane grabbed a chair and dragged it over to face the bed.
"Do you know about Julian's mistress?"
Xavier threw an arm over his eyes and didn't answer.
"The financial anchor at the TV station," Zane pressed.
Still, Xavier remained silent.
"Is there another mistress I don't know about?" Zane asked cautiously.
Xavier finally spoke. "I know about her. What about it?"
"That new show she's hosting—did you fund that?"
Xavier stayed quiet. "What exactly are you trying to say?"
" Julian's mistress is pregnant. You know that, right? How can he do this to his wife?"
Xavier sat up, completely exasperated. "And so you, a completely uninvolved third party, break into my room in the middle of the night to play the valiant defender of another man's wife?"
Zane looked slightly guilty. "I... I'm just stating the facts."
Xavier rolled his eyes. "Shut the door on your way out."
There was no way Zane was leaving. He was practically crawling out of his skin with impatience, which was why he had resorted to banging on Xavier's door at this ungodly hour.
"Can you just back her into a corner?" Zane asked.
"Back who into a corner?"
