Elara was incredibly clear-headed. She knew Julian had only come to her and agreed to hand over half the money because he was out of options.
Even if she refused to agree to any conditions, he would still have to pay her.
Moreover, she had formally included her dowry in the divorce filings.
No matter how much he tried to drag things out, the court would finalize the divorce in a year and a half at most.
He was just terrified of bleeding more money.
What a cheapskate!
"Elara, you are simply too heartless," Julian complained.
"Is it because I didn't go soft or act stupid the way you expected?" Elara shot back.
"You know I haven't let you go," he insisted.
"Mr. Sterling, allow me to remind you that your mistress is heavily pregnant. Take responsibility where it's due."
"Elara, I will never marry her."
"It's still a life, and she seems completely devoted to you," Elara reasoned. "We were married for years without a child. Either you had a problem, or I did, or maybe we both did. Regardless of her background, that baby is yours."
Julian was livid. "Just to get a divorce, you'd rather I marry a woman like that?"
"You really are an ungrateful scoundrel!"
"I'm not the one who slept with the side-piece and got her pregnant!"
"I told you I'd agree to you marrying her, and you claim I have ulterior motives. If you really don't want to marry her, drag her to the clinic for an abortion right now. End it once and for all. Simple, right?"
"Julian, I truly look down on you. You want to have your cake and eat it too. You're a hypocrite."
"A person can't hoard every advantage in life. The more you refuse to let go, the more you'll end up losing everything. I've said my piece. Get out. I'm done wasting my breath on you."
Elara hurled a few more insults his way until Julian finally fled.
That evening, Elara had a business dinner. Zane took the opportunity to invite Xavier out.
He told Xavier he wanted to thank him.
Xavier politely declined, saying the thought was enough.
"The thought isn't enough. You have to come collect my thanks in person," Zane insisted.
