Zane quickly and succinctly explained the situation. The officer blanched and immediately waved his partners over.

"Officer!" Zane barked. "The two women in that room are extremely high-profile VIPs. You must prioritize their physical safety above all else. If anything happens to them, stopping an illegal party will not save your career."

Zane was making it explicitly clear: if the women in that room got a scratch on them, the entire precinct would burn.

The cops weren't stupid. People who booked the presidential suite weren't ordinary citizens.

And given the string-pulling that had just happened over the phone moments prior, they already suspected these were the wives of high-ranking officials.

The three officers exchanged a rapid look, immediately ushered the two women into the master bedroom, and ordered them to lock the door. They were instructed not to open it for anyone but a uniformed officer.

The officers then shoved the male companions into the living room, deadbolted the main door, and ordered them to protect the women at all costs. Again, they were not to open the door for anyone without a uniform.

Knowing the escorts might panic and ruin everything, one officer shoved his phone in their faces, recording them. "Dancing at a party is a misdemeanor. But if you run and cause a panic out there, I don't care who your boss is, nobody will be able to save you."

The three officers then drew their weapons and sprinted downstairs to confront the threat.

Zane had barely hung up the phone and turned toward the elevators to go after his mother, when the doors pinged open. Someone collided violently into his chest, nearly knocking him off balance.

He steadied himself, looking down, and his blood ran cold.

Her face was covered in blood. No, her entire body was soaked in it.

Zane grabbed her arms. "Are you okay? Where are you hurt?!"

The woman was utterly hysterical, babbling incoherently. "I didn't do it... I'm not hurt... I was just walking by... the blood isn't mine..."

Zane glanced down. Bright, arterial blood was violently pulsing out of a deep gash on her arm. She had hit an artery.

"Don't move!" Zane ordered sharply. He reached for his tie, but cursed realizing he hadn't worn one tonight.

Using one hand, he swiftly unbuckled his leather belt and wrapped it tightly around the upper half of her arm. The woman thrashed in a panic, fighting him off, still screaming, "I'm not hurt! It's not my blood!"

"You are bleeding out!" Zane roared.

The sheer force of his voice seemed to snap her out of her shock. She looked down at the pulsing geyser of blood on her arm, and her eyes rolled back as she started to faint.
