The Scorned Heiress's Hidden Empire (by Jade Quinn) novel Chapter 289

Chapter 289

In the warm car, Winter still felt a faint chill creeping in from nowhere. She tightened both hands around the cup of hot milk.

“Let’s not talk about him anymore.” She turned slightly to look at Roy. His hands were still on the steering wheel, his eyes lowered, as if he had drifted off in thought. She gave an awkward little smile. “I’m boring you, aren’t I?”

But the truth was, she felt like he was the only person she could say these things to.

Roy seemed to come back to himself and turned to look at her. Something flashed through his dark brown eyes, so quickly she couldn’t catch it before it vanished.

For a split second, the intensity of it startled her.

Then he looked away again. His fingertips had gone cold as they moved across the screen.

“Your judgment is probably not wrong. A lifetime is a long time…”

Before he could finish typing, Winter suddenly pressed a hand over the back of his gloved one and looked at him suspiciously.

“The birthmark on your eyelid…”

Roy’s grip on his phone stiffened almost imperceptibly.

He lifted his other hand and tugged the brim of his cap lower.

When Winter leaned in, clearly trying to get a better look, he lowered his eyes, deleted the unfinished message, and typed instead:

“I was born with it.”

By then, Roy was practically pressed against the car door, and Winter finally realized she had gotten a little too

nosy.

She had just happened to notice that the mark on his eyelid seemed to be gone.

Surely, he hadn’t gotten it removed. He didn’t seem like the type to care that much about his looks.

Since that was what he said, and he clearly didn’t want her staring at him, she figured it was probably just the dim lighting in the car and she had seen it wrong.

“Sorry, Roy. I really need to stop being so nosy.”

She apologized for getting carried away.

Then she leaned in a little and gave his upper arm a light pat. It was solid enough to make her blink.

“Well, no wonder you’re not cold. You’ve got like five layers on.”

Roy lowered his gaze to the hand that had just patted his arm. The scab in the web between her thumb and index finger had mostly come off by now.

“Once I move to Merika, I probably won’t be coming back to Liono City.” Winter cradled the warm cup in both hands and kept talking. “I never really thanked you for teaching me so much. You have no idea, the last time I went to see Skyla…”
