The Scorned Heiress's Hidden Empire (by Jade Quinn) novel Chapter 290

Chapter 290

In the very next instant, Roy let her go and sat back in his seat, both hands returning to the steering wheel.

Just then, Winter’s phone rang.

It was William.

“Where did you go this late at night?” he asked. “Don’t tell me you lied about flying out the day after tomorrow and already snuck off tonight.”

Winter answered honestly. “I’m downstairs. I’ll be right back.”

After hanging up, she looked at Roy, who was still gripping the wheel and staring straight ahead.

“Take care of yourself, okay? If you get sent out on a job, be careful. Don’t get hurt. Your health matters more than anything, got it?”

Roy was a lot like her. He didn’t really have any family either. But at least she still had plenty of friends who cared about her. Roy only seemed to have Zion, who looked up to him like he was some kind of hero. Other than that, he didn’t seem to have anyone close at all.

And now even she was leaving the country.

Soon, there really wouldn’t be anyone left to care about him.

That thought made her say a few extra things.

“All right. I’m heading back up. You should go home too. It’s really cold tonight.”

Roy lifted his eyes and looked past her shoulder toward the apartment lobby. William had just come out of the elevator, one hand pressed to his abdomen as he moved forward in slow, careful steps.

The moment Winter opened the car door, she saw him too and frowned.

“Why did you come downstairs? At this rate, you’re going to end up right back in the hospital.”

She pulled up her hood, stepped out of the car, and flashed Roy a bright smile from outside. Then she waved for him to head home, shut the door, and jogged toward the lobby.

“If you keep moving around like this, you’re going to tear your stitches.” When Winter saw how pale William looked, she didn’t know whether to be annoyed or worried. She hurried over and took hold of his arm.

William glanced back at the SUV still parked outside.

“Who was that?”

“Roy. I told him I’m going to Merika the day after tomorrow. He was worried he might be away on a job and won’t get the chance to see me off, so he came by tonight.”

William looked away and gave a thoughtful little hum. Roy really was a loyal guy.

Down below the apartment building, with the mist hanging thick in the night air, the black SUV still had not moved long after Winter was gone.

Inside the car, Roy pulled off his mask, revealing a sharply sculpted, strikingly handsome face. Beneath his strong brow bone, his eyes were dark and unreadable.
