The Scorned Heiress's Hidden Empire (by Jade Quinn) novel Chapter 301

Chapter 301

Sweat had soaked the hair at Winter’s temples.

Her lips were swollen, and the torn neckline of her gown hung loose, barely covering the marks left on her skin.

But with one cold sentence, and with the sticky blood on her palm, the charged atmosphere inside the car shattered completely.

“What did you do?” Chris demanded sharply.

The lust in his eyes vanished into the darkness of his gaze in an instant. Only the faint redness at the corners of his eyes remained, revealing how close to losing control he had been moments earlier.

The smell of blood kept growing stronger in the sealed car, grinding against the nerves like something relentless and inescapable.

Chris grabbed her bleeding hand and saw that her other hand was clutching a bloodstained Swiss Army knife.

His eyes tightened sharply.

She had used that to keep herself awake.

She would rather hurt herself than let him touch her.

The last trace of desire in Chris’s eyes was burned away by a surge of fury, leaving behind nothing but cold anger.

He snatched the knife from her and hurled it at the car door. It hit with a loud bang, then bounced to the floor.

“You really hate the thought of me touching you that much?”

“Yes.”

She answered with such calm indifference, as if the man in front of her had just been a tool she could have used for relief a moment ago.

With the knife gone, her hand was empty.

She grabbed the torn neckline of her gown and pulled it back up, covering what had just been completely exposed.

When Chris heard her answer, his face darkened so much it looked stormy.

He clamped a hand around the wrist of her bleeding hand and tore off a strip from her gown to wrap around her palm.

Then Winter’s weak, cold voice slowly broke the silence inside the car.

“I thought it was someone else kissing me, touching me, trying to help me. If I’d known it was you, I would rather have died…”

“Winter!” Chris’s face turned icy as he cut her off.

He looked up at her eyes, still red from the drug’s effects, but empty of warmth. His fingers, now cold, closed tightly around the hand that had been holding the knife.

In a harsh voice, he demanded, “Who did you think it was?”

“Anyone, as long as it wasn’t you

Winter, you’re really something else,” he said through clenched teeth, each word forced out one by one.
