The Scorned Heiress's Hidden Empire (by Jade Quinn) novel Chapter 302

Chapter 302

Winter froze for a second, not understanding what he meant.

William reached out and felt her forehead. Her temperature was back to normal. Then he said, “When you were brought to the hospital, you were just starting to regain some awareness, but the drug was also hitting you the hardest. They were about to wheel you in for a stomach pump, and you kept asking the doctor to find you a man. I was this close to covering your mouth myself.”

Winter had been out of her mind. Of course she wouldn’t remember any of that.

But she did remember hearing Chris tell the driver to take her to the hospital just before she lost consciousness in

the car.

“Was it Chris who brought me here?” Her voice came out dry and hoarse.

If nothing unexpected had happened, Chris should have been in detention right now.

Back in the car, all she could think about was not letting Chris touch her. She had been so focused on staying conscious and fighting the drug that she had completely forgotten his situation.

“No. It was his bodyguard,” William said. “G took you away, but Chris intercepted him. Chris didn’t bring you here himself, though. The police stopped him on the way.”

William tucked the blanket around her more securely. “Don’t waste your energy thinking about people who don’t matter right now. You still can’t drink water yet. Go back to sleep and get some strength back first.”

Winter looked dazed for a moment. Then she came back to herself and said, “I can’t sleep with you here.”

“Then just close your eyes,” William said. As he spoke, he actually reached out as if he were going to press her eyelids shut and help her “rest in peace.”

Winter turned her head away from his hand and said, “I’m worried your intestines are going to spill out, so go back. Zion can stay here with me.”

She looked completely serious, like she had no intention of sleeping unless he left.

William knew there was no arguing with her when she got stubborn like this. After giving Zion a few instructions, he let the bodyguards help him out of the room.

Only after she was sure William had left did Winter call weakly toward the door, “Zion.”

She didn’t have much strength, and her voice was barely above a call, but Zion was trained. His hearing was sharp, and he opened the door right away and came in.

“Ms. Scott, did you need something?”

He stood by the door, and Winter motioned him closer.
