The Scorned Heiress's Hidden Empire (by Jade Quinn) novel Chapter 313

Chapter 313

Winter swallowed the irritated words at the tip of her tongue and said as gently as she could, “You’re already in this condition. You really don’t need to go downstairs just to walk off lunch.

“Besides, if you really want to move around a little, you can do it at home. Your living room is huge. A few laps in here would be plenty.”

Just then, her phone rang.

She was holding it with the screen facing up, so Roy immediately saw the caller ID.

It was Zac.

As Winter’s finger hovered over the screen, something hit the floor with a dull thud.

She turned and saw Roy’s cane lying on the ground. She quickly walked over, picked it up, and handed it back to

him.

“See? You can barely get around without your cane right now. So stay upstairs, okay?” she said patiently.

Then she turned toward the elevator and swiped to answer the call.

But before she could hear what the person on the other end was saying, she caught Roy moving past her out of the corner of her eye. He was already heading forward with his cane, each step striking the floor with a heavy knock.

“Hey, Roy, don’t walk so fast.” Winter reached out and grabbed his arm.

Then she saw him tap a few words into his phone.

You go ahead.”

On the other end, Zac had heard her say Roy’s name. Was that the bodyguard who had shown up outside her apartment before, the one who was clearly skilled in a fight?

In a low voice, he asked, “Winnie, can we meet?”

Still holding Roy’s arm to keep him from leaving, Winter answered calmly, “I saw the news.”

The headline about the Davis family heir getting engaged to the daughter of a powerful political family had already pushed Steve’s scandal out of the spotlight.

She heard Zac’s breathing tighten on the other end. “Winnie…”

She knew exactly what he was dealing with, Eugene’s situation still hadn’t been resolved, and whoever was behind it seemed determined to ruin him. She understood how trapped he felt, caught between family duty and his own feelings. But she couldn’t say anything to comfort him.

“If you want to see me as family, I’d be happy to meet. But if you still haven’t sorted out your feelings, then we shouldn’t. Congratulations on your engagement, Zac.”

She ended the call and looked up at Roy. “Do you still want to go downstairs for a walk?”
