The Scorned Heiress's Hidden Empire (by Jade Quinn) novel Chapter 315

Chapter 315

Deep in the ICU wing, there was a heavy secured door with a keypad lock. Every doctor and nurse assigned to that case had gone through layers of screening before being allowed anywhere near it. No one else knew who was staying inside.

The door opened, and a tall man in full protective gear stepped out. He was covered from head to toe. A doctor walked out with him.

“We’re just waiting for Ms. Jasper’s test results now,” the doctor said. “If all her numbers come back normal, we’ll move forward with the bone marrow transplant right away.”

The doctor led him into the changing room and helped him remove the protective suit. The room inside had to remain completely sterile. The child in the isolation room was too fragile to handle any outside contamination.

With the medical staff’s help, Chris took off the protective gear. His expression stayed cool and unreadable, without the slightest hint of emotion.

Only his bloodshot eyes gave away how tired he really was.

“What are his chances?” Chris asked. His voice was dry.

Just moments earlier, he had been standing outside the specially designed temperature–controlled incubator, looking at him. The child was already a year old, but compared to other children that age, he was so small. So fragile.

But those round little eyes had opened wide when he recognized him. The boy had struggled to turn over and crawl toward him, tilting his head with a smile.

He looked so much like her.

The doctor frowned slightly. For all this time, Chris had never asked that question.

He had been completely focused on finding a matching donor, as if once the marrow was found, the child would naturally survive.

The doctor hadn’t expected him to ask now, of all times.

I explained this to you before,” the doctor said carefully. “The child’s condition at birth was already very poor, and he was delivered at eight months. Babies born that early face extremely difficult odds. We have done everything we can to keep him alive, using the most advanced methods and the gentlest treatment possible.”

“Just tell me,” Chris said.

His fingers tightened until the knuckles stood out white.

The doctor’s expression turned grave. Even after a bone marrow transplant, the odds of survival are still not high. If we don’t do the transplant, he likely has no more than six months.”

A long silence followed.

Then Chris said, calm and unwavering, “Do the transplant.”

At that moment, Gavin knocked on the half–open changing room door. He had heard enough of the conversation to know what was being discussed, and his own expression darkened.

He stepped to Chris’s side and said something to him in a low voice.

“Mr. Xander…the doctor began, but before he could finish, Chris had already put on his coat and strode out of the changing room.

The doctor froze. The urgency in his stride was something he had never seen before.

“Gavin?” the doctor asked, turning to Gavin in confusion. Ms. Jasper’s test results are about to come back. At a moment like this, where is Mr. Xander going?”

Gavin replied evenly, Just make sure Ms. Jasper completes every test.”
