Chapter 397
At the foot of the mountain, Chris got out of the car with his bodyguards.
It would still take some time for the armed helicopters to arrive.
But Fabian had already taken Winter into the mountains.
Knowing her, she would rather break than submit. She would never allow Fabian to take her away without fighting back.
But what if she tried to escape? What if she found a chance to slip away right under Fabian’s nose? The mountain path was steep. One wrong step, and she could fall off a cliff.
For a split second, Chris remembered the image of her falling from a cliff after she had been kidnapped before. His face turned as cold as frost.
He had already changed into a weatherproof jacket and hiking boots on the way there. He put on night–vision goggles, picked up a gun, and loaded the magazine. The weapon clicked together in his hands with clean, precise sounds.
“Move up the mountain.”
The moon disappeared behind the clouds again. Thick clouds rolled in with the wind, and soon not even a trace of moonlight could get through.
The mountain path became even harder to walk.
Winter had gradually adjusted to the rough terrain, but she still pretended to step carefully over the loose stones, acting as if every step was difficult.
Suddenly, a cold hand clamped around her wrist, like a snake striking out of the dark.
Winter tried to pull free, but his grip only tightened, so hard it felt as if he might crush the bones in her wrist.
Fabian held her easily. “It’s dark, Ms. Scott. I’ll keep hold of you. If you fall off a cliff, where am I supposed to find another one of Chris’s prized possessions?”
The phrase “prized possession” landed like a taunt.
“I need to use the bathroom,” she said flatly.
One of Fabian’s men grumbled under his breath, “Women are nothing but trouble.”
Fabian didn’t seem to mind. He released her wrist and said casually, “Just do it here. It’s dark anyway. No one can see a thing.”
A few of the men let out low, suggestive chuckles. The filthy creeps made her skin crawl.
“You say no one can see, but that doesn’t make it true. With all these people around, I can’t go,” Winter snapped, her voice thick with irritation.
The smile at the corner of Fabian’s mouth faded for a moment.
“Then I’m afraid you’ll have to hold it a little longer, Ms. Scott. Once we’re on the helicopter, you can use the
bathroom.”

“Boss Kane, she can barely handle this road,” one of his men said. “She won’t get far even if she runs.”
