Chapter 450
The hospital room door opened.
Chris was sitting in bed, reading rough some documents.
When he heard the door, he turned and saw Gavin standing there with a baseball cap in his hand, his face no longer showing any obvious flaws.
What had happened was obvious.
She had gotten suspicious after all.
Chris clenched his fist and coughed, coughing until his eyes turned red.
“Did she say anything?”
Gavin thought back to what Winter had said. Aside from the questions she had asked him, the emotion she had shown hadn’t been anger.
It was something else.
He answered honestly, “Mrs. Xander was hurt deeply by the friend she knew as Roy. She only told me to leave.”
There was no surprise or hesitation on Chris’s silent face.
He had hurt her again.
But at least, in her heart, it was easier for her to accept that Gavin was Roy than to accept that Chris was Roy.
Only from now on, he could no longer approach her as Roy.
He no longer had an identity that allowed him to stand beside her without fear, to stay with her as a friend, and to protect her.
Dominic had already stopped playing his mobile game the moment Gavin returned. The way Gavin looked seemed familiar. It took Dominic a few seconds to realize that this was the samne disguise Chris had worn when he had “escaped” from his room in the middle of the night.
So Chris had been disguising himself as Gavin.
No wonder, when Dominic had asked Chris why he was wearing a muscle suit, Gavin had suddenly said, “Blame me for being too built.”
Gavin was definitely more muscular than Chris, but once he was dressed, he mostly just looked broad–shouldered. He had a strong frame that carried clothes well, just in a different way from Chris. With the right layers and a little padding, it wouldn’t be impossible to pass one off as the other.
And judging from the current situation, Chris had made Gavin take the blame.
Dominic didn’t even know what to say.
“You played with fire and got burned, didn’t you?” Dominic glanced at Chris.
Just then, a message popped up on his phone.
He glanced at it, let out a cold scoff, grabbed his jacket, and stood to leave. When he reached Chris’s bedside, he stopped.
“But maybe this is for the best. At least you won’t keep dragging your half–dead body around in cosplay and driving me insane. If Lily doesn’t kill me first, you definitely will.‘

At the mention of Lily and the awful things Dominic had done, Chris had no interest in getting involved.
