The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon (Celine and Bastian) novel Chapter 124

Chapter 124

Anne walks toward me, barely containing the rage burning inside her. Her eyes are still golden, and her hands remain tipped with claws, as though part of her is still waiting for the chance to attack me again. She doesn’t look ashamed of what she did or remorseful for trying to hurt me.

The only thing left on her face is resentment.

I had nothing to do with Alaric rejecting her.

Beatriz, on the other hand, seems upset for an entirely different reason. She isn’t worried about her daughter or the situation we’ve found ourselves in. She’s furious because the deal she made with Johan has just changed and, for the first time in long while, someone has taken control away from her in a situation she believed she had planned perfectly.

I’m not going with the warlock because I’m a coward.

I’m not doing it because I’ve given up.

I’m doing it because Bastian needs to be safe, and because I still owe something to myself. I said I wanted to perform one last act of kindness for my father and Cassius, and keeping them from dying abandoned somewhere in the Dark Forest is the last thing I can do for them.

It doesn’t matter how much they hurt me.

It doesn’t matter how much pain they caused me.

They still share my blood.

Johan steps between Anne and me before she can get any closer. He doesn’t make a single abrupt movement, nor does he seem concerned about her. He simply places himself between us, as though he knows the only thing preventing her from attacking me again is the distance separating us.

His hands begin to move slowly, tracing circles through the air as he murmurs words I can’t understand. The energy around him shifts, and the atmosphere inside the room grows heavier.

For the first time in my life, I watch a warlock’s magic take shape before my eyes.

The space in front of us begins to distort.

Reality seems to fold in on itself until a glowing rift opens in the middle of the room.

A portal.

On the other side, I can see a dark, damp alleyway, its old stone walls half-hidden beneath a thick layer of fog crawling across the ground.

I don’t know where it is.

But I know it isn’t in Lemuria.

“Leave. Now.”

Johan’s voice is cold and impatient.

Beatriz takes her daughter’s hand to cross through the portal, but before either of them can take a single step, I speak again.

“One day, I’ll find you. I have all eternity to do it. Every day that passes, when you finally believe you’re safe, will become another day of torment. I swear on my mother’s memory that when I find you, you’ll wish you’d never done to me and my family what you did.”

Neither of them moves right away.

Anne barely turns her head to look at me over her shoulder, hatred still blazing in her golden eyes, while Beatriz remains frozen for a moment. Then, very slowly, a crooked smile curls across her lips.

It isn’t the smile of someone who feels superior.

It’s the smile of someone still convinced she’ll never have to answer for all the damage she caused.

“Good luck with that, you little bitch.”

Without another word, she pulls Anne by the hand, and the two of them step through the portal. Johan waits until they’ve both disappeared before making a slight movement with his hand. The opening folds in on itself until it vanishes completely, leaving us alone in a silence far more unsettling than all the shouting that had filled the room only moments ago.

Now it’s just the two of us.

The warlock turns toward me with a smile on his lips.
