The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon (Celine and Bastian) novel Chapter 131

Chapter 131

Before either of the two women can say a single word. I head for the door and step outside, guided by the presence of my sword. I break into a run, following an instinct I can’t explain, dodging puddles, mud, and fallen branches until I come to an abrupt stop the moment I see it. Erebus rests on the grass, partially submerged in rainwater, as though it had remained there since the storm began. I kneel in front of it, take it in both hands, and only then do I realize its sheath is gone.

I make my way back to the house without running. I walk slowly, allowing myself a minute to gather my thoughts while water drips from the leaves and the damp air fills my lungs.

“Astra… do you remember anything?”

I get no response.

Only then does it dawn on me that, ever since we arrived here, she hasn’t spoken a single word to me.

“Astra… are you there?”

“Zack…” she whispers, her voice so faint that for a moment I think I’ve imagined it. I can feel her exhaustion, her drowsiness. as though she barely has the strength left to answer.

The sword releases a strange energy into my hands, growing stronger with every step I take toward the house.

“Helel…”

The same name.

I know that’s her sister’s name, and ever since I picked her up, she hasn’t stopped whispering it over and over again.

“Idunn…

I look up toward the entrance.

The door opens before I even have the chance to raise my hand and knock, and a young man appears in front of me.

No.

He’s not a wolf.

Nor is he a vampire.

There’s something different about him, something I can’t identify. I don’t know what it is, but his presence is impossible to ignore. He’s tall, with refined, well-balanced features, broad shoulders, and a lean build that carries an almost unreal elegance. He doesn’t possess Darien’s imposing physique or Vladimir’s athletic frame, yet he draws the eye with effortless ease.

“Good morning, beautiful. Come in.” He steps aside to let me enter.

I cross the threshold and confirm exactly what Valeria had warned me about.

The living room has become too small.

People are everywhere. Some occupy the sofas, others stand talking quietly among themselves, while several pairs of eyes turn toward me the moment I step through the door.

Thank you.”

It’s the only thing I manage to say, intimidated by the number of wolves and vampires gathered in one place.

The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon

“You’re welcome,” he replies, never taking his eyes off my sword, as though he were surprised to see it.

“Come, Celine. Come here. I’d like to introduce you to my family and friends, Valeria says as she walks toward me, but she stops the moment she notices my sword. “Why do you have my sword?”

“It’s not your sword, ma’am. She’s Erebus.”

“Well, it’s identical to my sword.” She frowns and reaches out to touch it, but I stop her.

“I’m sorry. I don’t want her to hurt you.”

Darien steps closer to his wife, and two more men immediately follow her.

“It’s the sword she had with her when I brought her here. I couldn’t lift it. It’s not your sword, sweetheart.” Darien tries to reassure her. “I didn’t pay much attention to it at the time. I just wanted to get Celine inside and out of the rain.”

“If it weren’t for your almost white hair. I’d swear you two look quite a bit alike,” one of the men standing beside Valeria and Darien says. “My name is Christian. I’m one of Valeria’s mates. Don’t be afraid. We’re not dangerous, but we’d like to know how you ended up here, in our pack.”

I nod, take a step forward, and extend my hand toward him.

“Celine Miller, from Lemuria.”

He shakes my hand and smiles.
