i take a long breath. I’m sitting in front of everyone as though I’d just walked into the kingdom’s court of justice. The only difference is that there is no judge here, no one is passing sentence, and, at least for the moment, I don’t seem to be the one on trial.
Even so, every eye is on me,
I begin speaking, telling them everything in as much detail as I can. I explain how my stepmother and half-sister burst into the castle’s great hall, the lies they told about my father, and the supposed illness that had left him at death’s door. I continue with the ambush at the house, the attack that left my mate unconscious, my encounter with Johan, and the blood pact I made with him to get my family back. No one interrupts me. Some exchange discreet glances, others remain perfectly still. and only the faint creak of wood whenever someone shifts in their seat breaks the silence that fills the room.
“So you’re saying you don’t remember anything that happened afterward? You don’t remember where you went, whether you gave him your blood, or what happened to your sword?” Larissa asks, never taking her eyes off me.
The same woman who, only a few minutes ago, admitted to being Johan’s mother.
“Exactly. I don’t remember anything. The last thing I know is everything I just told you. I know what that bastard planned to do with me, I crossed the portal with him… and then I woke up here. There’s nothing between those two moments, except that about two months have passed.”
An uncomfortable silence settles over the room.
Christian folds his arms thoughtfully. Tanner lowers his gaze to the floor, as though trying to make sense of everything he’s heard. Savannah glances at Valeria out of the corner of her eye, and Koorush remains perfectly still, listening to every word. Even Zharzel, who only moments ago had been amused by the existence of Erebus, loses his smile.
Larissa nods slowly.
“I’ve never been to Lemuria. That’s why it’s impossible for me to open a portal to that world. What I can’t understand is how Johan managed to get there.”
She never once mentions that Johan is her son.
Why is she hiding it?
I’ve never been to Lemuria either, so I can’t take you there, Celine.” Vladimir leans against one of the walls with his arms crossed. “We know hidden places exist within the human world, but none of us has ever found that continent.”
“Perhaps Morgana knows where it is and can take us there.” Valeria shrugs.
Vladimir gives her a look cold enough to freeze the air.
“Don’t look at me like that. I know you can’t stand the sight of her, but we both know she lives in Avalon. If anyone knows of a hidden continent like Lemuria, it’s probably her.”
Larissa doesn’t waste a second.
“I’ll return as soon as I can. I’ll speak to Morgana myself.”
A white portal opens behind her. The witch steps through it and disappears without saying goodbye, leaving behind an even
heavier silence.
Everything feels strangely confusing.
“There’s something I need to tell all of you.” Valeria absently strokes her belly before lifting her gaze to everyone in the

room. I’ve been dreaming about Celine. Not the Celine who’s here, but another one… from another time. She’s always with a man, in what looks like a village or a tribe. I’ve been having the exact same dream for four months now, practically since I found out I was pregnant with Darien’s baby.”
The three men beside her turn toward her at the same time.
“I’ve seen those dreams too, Valeria,” I say for the first time since finishing my story. “And I can assure you, that woman looks very much like me… but she isn’t me.”
“Interesting.” Vladimir pushes himself away from the wall and walks over until he’s standing in front of me. Did your dreams also begin when you became pregnant?”
I search my memory.
No.
They didn’t begin when I became pregnant.
The dreams started a little earlier, on the day my mate marked me.
“They started when my mate marked me.”
Vladimir narrows his eyes.
“And how long ago was that? I’m not trying to pry into your private life, but I’m sure you understand my curiosity. We have two terrible she-wolves from the same bloodline, nearly identical swords… and now shared dreams.”
I absentmindedly run my fingers over Erebus’s hilt before lifting my eyes to Valeria.
“Who are Idunn and Helel?”
I already know part of the answer.
I just need to hear it from Valeria herself.
“Idunn is my daughter. She bears the name of my late sister, just like my sword. I named her after my father-in-law, Arman, gave me the blade years ago during a trip to Iran.” Her gaze shifts to Zharzel. “Could you go get it?”
