The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon
Chapter 140
She is an elderly woman with completely white hair. Wrinkles line every corner of her face, but they fail to hide the serenity she radiates. He, on the other hand, still looks like a young man. Tall, handsome, with a stern expression and straight shoulders. His very presence commands respect.
But then he looks at her, and all that hardness disappears.
It’s a calm look, filled with such profound devotion that, for a moment, the rest of the hall ceases to exist.
They sit on two large wooden thrones draped with furs. He gently takes one of her hands in both of his, a tenderness that contrasts with the strength his figure projects, and she answers him with a weary smile, one overflowing with affection.
I can’t take my eyes off that woman.
It’s like looking at myself hundreds of years from now.
As if time had decided to show me the reflection of the person I might one day become.
Two men with hair as white as mine approach them with smiles on their faces. Both are tall, broad-shouldered, and sharply featured. There’s something strangely familiar about them, though I can’t explain what it is. One of them, the one who looks a few years older than the other, holds out a carved wooden cup to the man sitting beside the elderly woman.
“Father, have a drink with us. We’re celebrating.”
“And what exactly are we supposed to be celebrating?”
The two exchange a quick glance before turning their full attention back to him.
“The goddess Isa blessed today’s hunt. We have enough meat to last through the winter.”
The man remains silent for a few seconds. A faint smile, barely noticeable, softens the severity of his expression for a brief
moment.
“I’ll celebrate and raise a toast with the two of you when you stop competing as brothers to prove who’s better.”
His voice is firm, but not harsh.
Then he rises to his feet.
“The celebration is over for us. Your mother needs to rest.”
“But, Father…”
The younger one trails off as he watches the man lean down toward the elderly woman. With a gentleness that contrasts with the size of his arms, he lifts her into them as though the passing years hadn’t added a single pound to her weight. She naturally wraps her arms around his neck and rests her head on his shoulder, smiling at him with the quiet peace that can only come from a lifetime shared together.
“It’s all right… Mother needs to rest.”
The man begins walking with his wife in his arms, and as they move through the hall, the conversations fade one after another. Men, women, and children step aside with absolute respect, bowing their heads in silence as the couple crosses the great hall. No one questions the gesture. No one seems surprised by it. For them, it’s as ordinary as breathing.
I follow them out of pure curiosity. No one is forcing me to, but there’s something about this couple, about the way they look at each other and the respect they inspire in everyone around them, that I simply can’t ignore.

Someone notices them and hurries to open a heavy wooden door. I follow in silence, taking in the room It’s spacious built from thick logs darkened by the passage of time. Several candles and oil lamps barely illuminate the space, leaving entire corners shrouded in shadows. In the center, a blazing hearth keeps the room warm, and the scent of burning firewood fills the air as smoke slowly rises until it disappears through the small openings in the roof.
Legion, let me go already. You can’t do this every night… I’m tired.”
He lays her down with heartbreaking tenderness. Then he pulls the thick furs over her until she’s completely covered, quffs the pillow beneath her head, and sits beside her. With infinite gentleness, he brushes a strand of her white hair behind her ear before caressing her cheek with the back of his fingers.
I feel like an intruder.
As if I were invading a moment I was never meant to witness. I should leave, give them the privacy of this farewell, but can’t bring myself to do it. After all, they were the ones who invaded my dreams and my thoughts for months I’m not really here. This isn’t real. I try to convince myself that this is only a vision, another one of those strange memories I don’t understand. They can’t see me. They shouldn’t be able to.
“How could I let you go, my love? What place would I have in this world if you weren’t with me?”
“In another life…” The elderly woman coughs, and he immediately helps her sit up with the utmost care, wrapping an arm around her to support her fragile body. “I’ll come back to you. I swear it.”
“I can’t… I love you too much to let you go.”
She slowly lifts her gaze until it meets his. Her blue eyes, weary from the centuries, still shine with the same warmth they’ve held from the very beginning.
“It was almost a thousand years. My body can no longer endure the passage of time. I should have died centuries ago. but you won’t let me…
