The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon

Chapter 144

༠༥༣,

Vladimir steps away from the window and walks calmly toward the bed. The old polished wooden floor creaks beneath his feet before he sits down on the edge of the mattress. He folds his arms across his chest, then crosses one leg over the other His posture looks relaxed, but his expression isn’t. The shadows beneath his eyes and the seriousness with which he watches me make it obvious he’s been waiting far too long for this conversation.

“Tell me everything.”

“Johan didn’t hurt me. He protected me from a woman when she started hitting me. I was in a laboratory where they were trying to create a creature powerful enough to wipe all of you out.”

I close my eyes for a moment, forcing myself to sort through the memories still crashing into each other inside my head. I remember the white walls, the smell of disinfectant, the examination tables, the blood… and then the emblem engraved in several places comes back to me.

“It was a laboratory with an emblem. The Silver Order. I remember it clearly.”

Vladimir closes his eyes for a second.

“I think you need to tell everyone about this, not just me. Especially my mother and Karin.”

“Your mother gets on my nerves, Vladimir. I don’t want her anywhere near me. She makes me uncomfortable.”

He lets out a quiet chuckle and rolls his eyes.

“Yeah, I don’t know what the hell her problem with you is either. My mother isn’t usually like this, but for some reason she doesn’t trust you.”

“Well, I haven’t done anything to deserve being treated that way.”

Vlad gets to his feet and pulls a small table over beside the bed. Resting one hand on the back of a chair, he looks at me again.

“So, what do you feel like having for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Because it’s already six o’clock here in Avalon, and you’ve been asleep for more than a day. After you eat, I’ll take you to the pack so we can talk about all of this with everyone else. Sound good?”

I nod slowly.

The sooner I get out of here, the better.

“Is this about Morgana? Is that why you want to leave?”

“Yeah. It’s a long story… but you still haven’t told me what you want to eat.”

“Were you two together?”

An amused smile tugs at the corner of his mouth.

“You’re awfully nosy, little wolf.”

Before I can answer, the door slowly swings open.

A tall, extraordinarily handsome man walks into the room holding the hand of a little boy no older than three. His long dark hair falls over his shoulders, and his unusual lilac-colored eyes sweep across the room before settling on me. Completely oblivious to the conversation, the little boy stays comfortably at his side.

“My guest is finally awake. I was starting to get worried. How are you feeling, Celme?”

i study him carefully.

He’s a vampire.

And there’s something strangely familiar about his face, even though I can’t remember where I’ve seen it before.

“Hi… thank you for letting me stay here.”

I have absolutely no idea who he is, but he just called me his guest, so I must be in his home.

“It’s a pleasure. My name is Killian. I’m Karin’s son and Tanner and Christian’s brother.”

The air catches in my throat. I start coughing as I struggle to swallow the saliva that went down the wrong way.

Killian.

The King of Avalon.

“Sorry for the trouble…” is the only thing I can think to say.

“It’s no trouble at all. Did the priestesses help you?”

Killian walks the rest of the way into the room with the little boy now resting comfortably in his arms and sits down in the armchair Vladimir had been using moments earlier. With effortless ease, he settles the child on his lap while the boy absently plays with one of the buttons on his shirt.

“Hi there, handsome…”

The little boy looks up at me and flashes a huge smile, proudly showing off every tiny tooth he has.

“You look just like your father.”

He has the same lilac-colored eyes.

My gaze returns to the king, and after a few seconds, I slowly shake my head.

“No. I remembered everything on my own, but it was strange. It felt like I’d walked through a portal into another place…. another time.

Killian frowns slightly, resting one arm on the chair while keeping the little boy steady with the other.

“There aren’t any open portals here. That’s strange. Maybe the priestesses did help you… just a little too late.”

I shake my head again, but this time I glance at Vladimir.

“Eggs, bacon… and an apple.”

Vlad lets out a quiet laugh, and a second later the small table beside my bed is covered with a steaming plate of food, a fresh apple, and a glass of juice. The smell of freshly cooked bacon instantly fills the room, and my stomach answers with a soft growl that reminds me just how long it’s been since I last ate.

Killian smiles when he hears it and gestures for me to dig in.

“It was like something unlocked the moment I crossed the fog. I was in a pack that was destroyed a thousand years ago, in Norway. I saw things… I saw you, I saw what happened to your father, to Karin’s pack… I saw too many things I should never have witnessed. That’s why I’m certain it had nothing to do with the priestesses’ magic.”
