The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon (Celine and Bastian) novel Chapter 146

Chapter 146

B

No. He doesn’t have anyone else. Johan was never good at connecting with people. There was always something dark about him. He left when he was just a child and never came back to us. I’ve only seen him a handful of times over the past centuries, and none of those meetings were exactly friendly.”

“Is that why you don’t understand why he let them manipulate him?”

“No. What I don’t understand is why he didn’t come to us from the beginning if they were in trouble.”

“He’s a prisoner. Taking me with him… I don’t think that’s what he wanted either, especially after…

…After discovering the mate bond with you?”

Vladimir’s words hang between us.

At that very moment, the door opens, and Killian walks into the room carrying a travel bag in one hand and a sword in the other. For a second, I silently welcome the interruption, but Vladimir never takes his eyes off me.

“Yes… but don’t tell anyone.”

He nods slowly. There’s something in his expression, a mixture of concern and resignation, that makes it clear how heavily that news weighs on him.

“Well… it looks like my brother and I share the same bad luck.”

“What are you two talking about?” Killian asks, looking from one of us to the other.

“Nothing, Kill. It’s time to go.”

Vladimir moves his hands quickly, and the air before us begins to ripple until a portal surrounded by bluish flashes opens.

“Finally, we’re going home.” Then he looks at Killian with a weary smile. “I like you, Killian… but the farther away I am from her, the better.”

I’m getting used to traveling through portals, so this time I don’t feel dizzy, and my stomach doesn’t churn as I step through.

When the three of us cross together, we emerge into a massive hall lit by the warm glow of a large fireplace. I recognize several faces I’d already seen at Valeria’s house, though there are also many people I’ve never met before. Conversations die out one after another the moment we appear, and dozens of eyes turn toward us.

“I take it that if you’re here with a sword in your hand, Celine managed to recover her memories… and they’re not good.” Tanner smiles at his brother as he walks over to greet us.

The Alpha gives Killian a brief hug before turning to me. He inclines his head slightly in a gesture of respect, then offers me a warm smile.

“Luna Celine, welcome to my home. Please, come sit with us. Were you able to recover the memories they erased?”

I nod as I follow him toward one of the armchairs. On the coffee table are several drinks, fruit, freshly baked bread, and small appetizers that no one seems willing to touch.

“Thank you for your hospitality, Alpha Tanner, but I don’t have much time. I’ll tell you what happened while I was in the Silver Order’s laboratories, but…”

The Order’s laboratories?” a young red-haired woman asks, springing to her feet so quickly that her chair slides several inches backward. Those bastards took my parents a year ago, and we still don’t know where they are.”

I don’t know what to say

The truth is, I was locked in different rooms, almost always tied to a bed. They only untied me long enough to take me to the bathroom before strapping me down again.

I’m sorry your parents had to go through that.”

The words feel inadequate even before I say them.

“Let her speak, Sharon.” A large Lycan with completely gray hair and a deep voice that commands respect steps in before the young woman can say anything else.

The bald man, covered in tattoos that climb from his neck beneath his clothes, wraps an arm around the young woman and gently pulls her against his chest. Sharon finally sits back down, unable to hold back her tears.

“She has no idea who the Order is… or everything they’ve done to us.”

A deep sadness settles over me as I watch her cry like that. He tries to comfort her by slowly stroking her back. Even though they belong to different species, it’s obvious they share a very strong bond. He’s a wolf.

She…

At first glance, she looks completely human.

“Go on, sweetheart.”

The same extraordinarily handsome demon I met the last time walks over holding a little boy’s hand. He crouches in front of him and gently brushes a lock of hair behind the child’s ear before speaking.

“Go play with Idunn and Edgard… and behave yourself. Don’t set anything on fire.”
