The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon (Celine and Bastian) novel Chapter 152

Chapter 152

Through the haze clouding my vision. I make out Magnus approaching with the dagger still in his hand. The silver blade catches the light with a cold gleam before coming to a complete stop in front of him. His features, always composed, harden as he realizes what has happened.

“It’s silver. Celine has been poisoned.”

The world begins to spin around me. The voices grow distant, distorted, as though they were coming from the bottom of a river. I feel my blood burning beneath my skin, spreading a searing fire through every vein in my body while, at the same time, an unbearable cold settles into my limbs.

I try to move, but I can’t even lift a hand. The only thing I desperately search for is Bastian’s face. I want to see him one more time. I want to make sure he’s still here… that he’s still breathing beside me.

Our hands are still intertwined. The last words I manage to say are….

“I love you.”

My eyelids grow heavy, as though they were made of stone. Darkness finally swallows the room, and, one by one, every sound disappears until I can no longer hear… no longer see… no longer feel anything.

Killian’s castle welcomes us with its massive gates standing open. The stone corridors, usually silent, are now filled with voices, hurried footsteps, and the constant flow of pack members moving from one place to another. Just as in previous years, everyone has been brought to Avalon to keep them safe while the storm closes in around us.

But not everyone agreed to come.

Some chose to remain in the human world, clinging to the lives they built there even after we warned them about the danger that will soon fall upon all of us. I can’t blame them. Everyone fights their own battles and faces fear in their own

way.

I came against my own wishes as well.

Part of me wanted to stay beside our people, to protect our home until the very end, but all it takes is one look at my children to remind me why I made this decision.

This is the safest place for them.

Idunn and Edgard are sitting on the edge of the bed with their legs dangling, their small hands clasped together so tightly that both their knuckles have turned white. Their eyes wander around the room with a mixture of curiosity and fear, as though they’re trying to understand why everyone is rushing from one place to another.

Edgard, my brave little man, sits slightly leaned toward his twin sister, as though even while sitting he feels the need to shield her with his own body. He’s always been that way. Ever since they were born, he’s felt responsible for protecting her. even though she’s more than capable of hitting him back whenever she gets angry.

“When am I going to grow up, Mom? When will I be as strong as my dads so I can protect you the way they do? I don’t want to be a little kid anymore.”

My chest tightens.

Carefully, I settle the baby in the middle of the bed. He squirms beneath the blankets for a moment before growing still again. Then I walk over to my twins and kneel in front of them so we’re at the same height. I stroke Edgard’s cheek with the back of my fingers before gently brushing a lock of hair away from Idunn’s face.

The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon

“I don’t want you thinking about those things, sweetheart. I kiss his forehead and smile warmly “You’ll grow up One day you’ll be strong, and I’m sure you’ll become one of the strongest and bravest warriors in the world. But don’t be in such a hurry to grow up. First, you have to be a child. You have to learn, play, make mistakes, discover the world, and wake up every morning with a smile, grateful that life has given you another sunrise. My duty as your mother is to protect you and your brothers, to raise you with love and good values so that, when that day comes, you’ll become a man you can be proud of, just as we’ll be proud of you. Do you understand?”

“Yes, Mommy… but…”

“No buts. Stop trying to grow up so fast, because my heart will break the day my little prince stops being so little.”

Edgard lowers his head with a shy smile, though he still doesn’t look entirely convinced.

Idunn doesn’t hesitate to wrap her arms around him in a possessive hug. Her enormous amber eyes lock onto mine with a determination that’s as adorable as it is dangerous.

“I’ll take care of my brother, Mommy. And if he wants to grow up… I’ll hit him.”
