1 frown slightly, trying to understand it better, and Lucien arranges several papers in front of us before continuing to speak patiently.

The explanation turns out to be much simpler than I expected.

The doctor says I only need to eat properly, begin a training routine, and build muscle and strength. That will help my wolf slowly grow stronger until she reaches normal development.

“Your body spent too long surviving, Luna Celine.” He explains calmly. “Your organism’s priority was never to grow stronger, but to stay alive. That is why your wolf developed so slowly.”

I lower my gaze toward my hands while trying to process all of that.

My wolf was never weak. She was just surviving the same way I was. The constant punishments, the poor nutrition, and the isolation… all of it was meant to keep my wolf from manifesting so they could control me more easily.

My chest tightens painfully at the thought of it. They were my family, my own blood, and even so they treated me with sudi cruelty that even my wolf stopped trying to grow and focused only on surviving alongside me.

So many things suddenly start making sense. The constant exhaustion, the physical pain after every punishment, the times my wolf appeared only when I was terrified, hurt, or desperate to escape.

She was never weak. She was just as exhausted as I was.

Bastian’s fingers tighten slightly around my hand and I do not need to look at him to feel the fury growing inside him like a silent storm.

“Be patient, Luna Celine. She will be fine in a short time.”

“What about the treatment for her skin?” Bastian interrupts again, far more serious than before. “When does she need to come for the first session?”

Lucien and Margot exchange a quick glance before she speaks again.

“We can begin this very week.” Margot replies while writing something else in the folder. “But the treatment will be slow. Some scars are old and others still have not finished healing properly.”

Bastian’s jaw tightens again.

I notice it even without looking directly at him.

“How long?” he asks in a deep voice.

“Months. Maybe more than a year to obtain complete results.” Margot sets the pen down on the desk. “But I can promise you they will improve tremendously.”

Bastian slowly nods and takes my hand between his again.

His fingers absentmindedly stroke my knuckles while his dark eyes remain fixed on the medical folders.

And even though he says nothing else, I can perfectly feel the silent fury growing inside him again.

He is probably imagining exactly who caused every one of those marks.

“That is all for now, Luna.” Margot says, getting to her feet beside her husband. “I will see you on Wednesday for your first session and I forgot to mention that, fortunately, you will not need surgery. I trust the creams I will prescribe will accelerate the natural regeneration process.”

She extends her hand to me while I stand up and, after thanking both of them, Bastian exchanges a few words with them

before we leave the office.

Jared is standing beside the door with his hands inside the pockets of his jacket. Poor thing, he spent hours outside making” sure I was okay and I always end up forgetting he is still here waiting for me.

I am a terrible friend.

Jared gives me a small smile as soon as we approach. He looks tired and his dark hair is still slightly messy after spending so many hours leaning against the wall.

เ

“I’m going to reward you with dinner tonight for being such a good friend and not leaving me alone for even a second.” Isay while taking his arm.

The boy straightens immediately and even looks more awake after hearing me.

I do the same with Bastian and hurry while walking through the long white hospital hallways. I do not want to remain here for one more second. I am tired of the smell of medication, the bright lights, and the worried looks every time someone reviews my test results.

My mate watches me while we walk, but I notice something strange in his expression. He no longer seems as tense as he was a few hours ago.

“What is it?”

He shakes his head and ends up smiling.

“I just discovered that you are bossy.”

I let out a small laugh when I hear him. I do it because, after the entire day he had to spend with me inside this hospital, I want him to notice that I am calm.

“And wait until I get comfortable.” I joke and this time Jared is the one who laughs. “It has been a long time without a female presence in the castle. I think even the king is going to be surprised.”

Bastian lowers his gaze toward me and for a second his eyes soften so much that he almost looks like another person.

Almost.

Because the prince keeps walking with that intimidating presence that makes doctors, nurses, and patients immediately move out of our way the moment they recognize him.

With the supplements and creams in hand, we finally return to the castle. The sun set hours ago and the wind strikes the trees hard at the side of the road. The vehicle’s lights illuminate the snow gathered on the highway while the silence inside the car becomes far calmer than during the trip there.

Everything looks the same as before. The fairy lights are still on just like the previous night and, when the main doors open in front of us, a group of women waits in the castle’s wide entrance hall.

All of them are dressed to impress.

Shimmering fabrics, delicate jewelry, flawless makeup, and too many expensive perfumes mixing in the air until the coffee I drank earlier rises back up my throat.

It is the same group of women who yesterday looked at me with disdain from the throne room.
